Micro-farming in the suburbs. Experimenting with self sustainability on a corner lot. It’s Been a While, My Friends July 9, 2011. Ringo the Reading Dog. 8212; bluemoonfarms @ 8:15 pm. Now that summer is in full swing, we are in full swing too. Most days are spent running hither and thither and yon, and we come home happy and exhausted at the end of the day. But we try to stay in the a/c, because it’s hot out there! Today is 96 degrees, with a heat index of 115. Being outside is not a great option! The &#...

Micro-farming in the suburbs. Experimenting with self sustainability on a corner lot. July 26, 2011. 8212; bluemoonfarms @ 9:18 pm. About a month ago, while we were at a rabbit show, Blue Moon Dad ran to Petrus Feed. To stock up on rabbit food. Hours into this crazy show, with really awful cell reception, he calls me and says “What kind of rare chickens were you looking at? They have all kinds of chicks here! I could hear in his voice that we were coming home with more than we’d driven up with. They get ...

Micro-farming in the suburbs. Experimenting with self sustainability on a corner lot. Eating Things We Grow July 12, 2011. Food from the Farm. 8212; bluemoonfarms @ 9:23 pm. I love the idea of being self sustaining. So I thought I’d add to our blog about how we incorporate the product of our farm into our daily lives. For instance:. This week the eldest Blue Moon Boy and I have decided to make Cinnamon Roll Pie. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). Build a webs...

Micro-farming in the suburbs. Experimenting with self sustainability on a corner lot. Too much to do. May 31, 2011. 8212; bluemoonfarms @ 12:02 am. There is SO much to do on our little micro-farm and I am just plum bushed. Part of the problem is temperature. With the mercury now rising consistently above 90 degrees during the day we try not to do too much in the barn. We want to keep the AC as cold as possible in there, and that means keeping the door closed and not doing too much! May 29, 2011. We also ...

And Blue Moon Bunnies. New Seasons, New Friends. Seasons go by so quickly here on our homestead. It's hard to keep up with work, family, chores, animals and do I need to mention, weeds? We've been so very busy in such very good ways - building, creating, welcoming, tending and growing together. Here are a few scenes from our last few seasons and some of the new friends we've welcomed and new projects we've been working on. Wishing you a season of growth, renewal and celebration this summer! And resign yo...

And Blue Moon Bunnies. Rainbow Eggs from Happy, Pasture-Raised Hens - Healthier for You! Grocery store eggs may be cheap, but the terrible cost to the poor hens made to suffer in battery cages on factory farms and the depleted nutrition of their eggs are hardly a bargain. Even those pricey organic, "free-range" eggs are usually raised in factory conditions and cannot compare to the taste and nutrition of truly pasture-raised eggs from a small, sustainable farm like ours. Bull; 1⁄3 less cholesterol.

Micro-farming in the suburbs. Experimenting with self sustainability on a corner lot. Like a Duck Out of Water. April 19, 2011. 8212; bluemoonfarms @ 2:31 am. So our ducks have been kept out of the water, except the water they have to drink from their special duckling waterer that is too small for them to climb in to. And they have managed to splash themselves and their flock mates with enough water and food until they were all covered and filthy. Something had to be done! April 14, 2011. It’s amaz...

Micro-farming in the suburbs. Experimenting with self sustainability on a corner lot. Setbacks May 18, 2011. 8212; bluemoonfarms @ 9:20 pm. I have been working Kitana every since Blue Moon Dad fell off of her almost two weeks ago. Every one has always been in awe of her “super sweet disposition”. Every person who sees her falls in love with her. Tch, honestly. With a capital B. Our first ride after the plan was implemented went great! That was Monday. Today? I am angry that she put me in this position.
