Jacob’s Te Araroa tramp

Jacob’s Te Araroa tramp. My name is Jacob Hoffman-Andrews. I’m an programmer from San Francisco. In January-April 2009 I did a through-tramp of the completed portions of the Te Araroa Trail in the South Island of New Zealand. I started the trail at Bluff in the south and finished at Ship Cove at the north end of the South Island. Please feel free to email me (jsha at newview dot org) if you have any questions about this blog or my hiking experience. The first night I was beastly to Roxane, forcing her to...

East of Cape Spear: January 2013
http://eastofcapespear.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
East of Cape Spear. The Map (New Zealand). Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Safe in the Sounds. I may have made my first major mistake of this New Zealand escapade: I only spent a single day in Wellington. Leaving Turangi on the very crowded Nakedbus on Monday afternoon, I caved and got the first McDonald's meal I've had in a scattered while. But, I wanted to check my email (they have free WiFi here in this country), and I got to try a New Zealand-exclusive Kiwiburger. The national museum not far from the ho...

Life Less Ordinary: TA Mail Drops
http://wanderinglavignes.blogspot.com/p/ta-maildrops.html
Sometimes the road less traveled isn't a road at all . Denali Mountaineering Gear List. Gear Junkies (AT and TA). On the AT, we loved getting our mail drops. People sent us 40 pieces of "mail magic" in the form of letters and packages. Obviously this is not going to happen in New Zealand. BUT, I am posting our mail drop locations as a reference for other TA hikers and just in case anyone feels compelled to drop us a letter. Havelock Mail Drop - ETA Jan. 15. 8453; Bluemoon Lodge. 48 Main Road Havelock.
