Short White Coat: August 2012
http://bostism.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Journey with a 2nd year Medical Student. Friday, August 17. Ever lied so much about something (be it to cover your tracks, shy away from embarrassment, or whatever your rationale was), that you forgot what was the truth? Will you lie, because you know the truth hurts? Monday, August 13. Dancing With The Dead. Ever thought whether doing too much of something you love causes it to fade away? An accurate depiction of the teaching table. The path i have chosen makes Death, a familiar face. Right from the...

Journey with a 2nd year Medical Student. Monday, August 13. Dancing With The Dead. Ever thought whether doing too much of something you love causes it to fade away? Our first meeting wasn't the best. I was taken aback, not knowing how i should respond. One of their representatives came to show us the tricks and trades, on how to optimise our learning. They were there to help, with open arms, or sometimes just one arm. An accurate depiction of the teaching table. However, we are humans. We adapt. ...I wan...

Short White Coat: November 2011

Journey with a 2nd year Medical Student. Wednesday, November 30. Ringworm. It is not a parasitic inflammation, unlike its name. Instead it's a fungal infection. And my bed. Some of my friends managed to get a new mattress after making a 'complaint'. So i did. And guess what? Either they are out of mattresses, or they have realised only the chinese are asking for a change. So their solution to a mattress which sinks in the middle, springs proding, ending up sleeping in a 'V' shape? Friday, November 25.

Short White Coat: March 2012

Journey with a 2nd year Medical Student. Thursday, March 29. So technically, year 1 cirriculum has finished. And it ended off on a good note. My last lesson was a ward session. In pairs, we headed out to our assigned wards, to our allocated patients, to practice all the clinical skills we have learnt thus far. It was my partner's turn to take the patients history, and it flows like this:. History of presenting complaint. Ideas, concern, expectations. Swollen ankle - Heart failure? I'm grateful that Aberd...

Short White Coat: April 2012

Journey with a 2nd year Medical Student. Saturday, April 7. Adventure along the Loch Ness. How did the idea came about? We were initially planning to head down (or west). To the Cairngorms National Park for a hike. Suddenly, Martin gave us a bunch of Sainsbury's discount coupon for ScotRail. With a return trip on the train just for £19, the Singaporean in me said, "Free discount, must use! We were so wrong. We just threw ourselves into my greatest adventure thus far. Drumnadrochit view of the Loch Ness.

Journey with a 2nd year Medical Student. Friday, November 23. My hands were sticky and smelt like a bar-top counter, which reminded me of the loud music banging at my ears and the numerous hi-bye greetings in a club. The club isn't a very nice place to be. And so is the hospital. The entrance slide open, and a depressed grey sky greeted me with a cold slap of wind. I took a deep breathe in, and suddenly was whisked in a puff of cigarette smoke. The smell of irony. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Short White Coat: September 2011

Journey with a 2nd year Medical Student. Saturday, September 17. We've been driving around Scotland, and i am impress with how much effort they put into their tourism industry. U could tour the country along its many trails (eg. Castle Trail, Coastal trail, distillery trail etc.), without a map! The roads are smooth and pretty easy to adapt to, and coming from right-hand drive Singapore (the right way). In China it's a warning, and maybe a "hello mate" here in Scotland. A table for 4 by a canel! And Aber...
