The Balkans meet the Austro-Hungarian empire
Budapest bits: April 2011
http://bluepeaks.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
The Balkans meet the Austro-Hungarian empire. Friday, April 8, 2011. Balconies: best of both worlds. Balconies have always fascinated me. I realise that wherever I go dozens of the pictures are from balconies. It's good watching balconies but also being on balconies. I got the taste for sipping wine or beer in fresh air especially after spending hundreds of hours on the one below, the beloved Tulipan street, 16 in Budapest. View from Balcony on Tulipan street, 16 (Budapest). The balconies below are on th...

Budapest bits: February 2011
http://bluepeaks.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
The Balkans meet the Austro-Hungarian empire. Monday, February 21, 2011. Even trivial things so used and tried. Today I was fully under the spell of Andrey Tarkovsky's Mirror. A month ago I had the urge of watching quality Russian cinema again and we started by Mirror and what a good choice. Today I have been thinking that a long take shows a bigger respect to the viewers, there is less trickery in a way. Long takes slow down time and free space for thinking. Dealing with time in this movie is phenomenal...
Budapest bits: The Art of Naming
http://bluepeaks.blogspot.com/2011/11/art-of-naming.html
The Balkans meet the Austro-Hungarian empire. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. The Art of Naming. I have always liked noting the names of boats and yachts Recently I had the chance to visit Zanzibar. Interestingly this guy did not name his boat after his beloved but after the degree of feeling to her - too much. Too much love will kill you. The names of the dictators. Little Ivo in Jelsa. Enjoyed this post. That first boat name reminded me of the lyrics, and sometimes when we touch, the honestys too muc...
Budapest bits: Saturday mornings on the Szena ter market
http://bluepeaks.blogspot.com/2009/02/saturday-morning-on-szena-ter-market.html
The Balkans meet the Austro-Hungarian empire. Sunday, February 8, 2009. Saturday mornings on the Szena ter market. Saturday morning is a time for pancakes. I used to make them at home but it would eat a big chunk of our morning that we would prefer to dedicate to something more active. Then we discovered the palacsinta. Place on the first floor of the Szena ter market and became regulars. Their pancakes are fantastic, with a generous amount of filling, and also cheap. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Obsessive Rereader: August 2009
http://obsessiverereader.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
A blog about books, mostly. Saturday, August 29, 2009. Something Wicked This Way Comes. Тhe first Ray Bradbury book I read was Death Is a Lonely Business. Exactly ten years ago. It was a very old and very dirty paperback I'd borrowed from the public library - miserable-looking and heavy with that moldy smell old library books always seem to have. Oh how I loved that book! After Death Is a Lonely Business. I recommend you never open it unless you have at least an hour to devote to it. It's primarily a sto...

The Obsessive Rereader: December 2009
http://obsessiverereader.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
A blog about books, mostly. Sunday, December 27, 2009. New Year's Resolutions (2010). For the first time in my life, I've decided to make some New Year's Resolutions. And since sharing them with the world (read: the six people who might read this post) will make me feel more accountable, here we go. 2 Learn how to drive. Or at least do some serious research on driving school. Yes, I am 28 and I've never been behind the wheel. Don't you dare judge me! 3 Nurture the poet in me more and do the "30 Days 30 P...
Seaside Stories: June 2009

Monday, 29 June 2009. Flat on my back with frozen brussel sprouts. Sprouts pressed against my lower spine. Oh and a large glass of pinot. By my side - I figure it can only help at this stage. I felt strangely proud when the osteopath. Told me that I had a "serious injury" as all the sighing/moaning/yelping/whinging I have done over the last two days seems totally justified. And generally looking after me. Thursday, 25 June 2009. So what did blog camp ever do for me? I learnt lots of blogging stuff that a...

The Obsessive Rereader: November 2009
http://obsessiverereader.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
A blog about books, mostly. Sunday, November 29, 2009. Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan. The relationship between Cécile and Cyril is another problem altogether, but I don't even want to talk about it. I've said enough bad things, so I'll leave you with the one almost passable sentence in the entire book. Cécile and Cyril are making love in Cyril's boat, and she says this: "The sun exploded and fell on me.". Links to this post. Friday, November 27, 2009. NaNoWriMo FAIL, but not completely. Whew Now t...

A blog about books, mostly. Saturday, February 27, 2010. The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. I couldn't bring myself to throw Dan Brown in the same post as Toni Morrison, so Dan gets his own post. I was actually looking forward to reading The Lost Symbol. I'll readily admit that I've read The Da Vinci Code. Three or four times and I've read Angels and Demons. Or The Last Temptation of Christ. Or, HAD, I should say. The Lost Symbol. Was bo-o-oring. And about 200 pages longer than it should have been. An...I thi...

A blog about books, mostly. Sunday, May 31, 2009. In the past couple of years, The Book Thief. Then" She told me her copy of the book was heavily decorated with post-its and she remembered flagging one particularly grand metaphor or description or some such thing. I still don't know which passage she was referring to, but here's my personal favorite:. And I definitely plan on checking out some of his other books. I hope they are worth it. Links to this post. Cuttings on a blog: June 2010

Cuttings on a blog. Sunday, June 27, 2010. I've been dying to show you our wedding invitations, and now that most of our guests have seen them, here they are! The stationery was one of those things that we decided from the beginning were very important to us. J is a designer so we always knew he'd design something for the occasion. I was in charge of the text and of course there were several discussions during the process on whether words or design are more important! Sunday, June 27, 2010. And of course...
