Now scrolling: The Gettysburg Address. Saturday, October 13, 2007. Lincoln's opinions of his own looks were self-effacing enough. Once during a campaign, when accused of being two-faced, Lincoln remarked "if I had two faces, do you think I'd be wearing this one? But what did others think of Lincoln's face? Adjutant-General James B. Fry remarked: "His expression in repose was sad and dull; but his ever-recurring humor, at short intervals, flashed forth with the brilliancy of an electric light.". My favorite things were flickr and YouTube, but I’ve gotten a lot of practical use out of Bloglines, del.icio.us, Library Thing and Google docs. Posted in 23 Things. Week Nine, Thing Twenty-Two. Laquo; Week Seven, Thing Sixteen. Week Eight, Thing Eighteen. Week Seven, Thing Seventeen. July 17, 2007. This was a real learning experience! I’d never used a Wiki before, and it turns out it’s really easy! I just did a minor edit to the Sandbox Wiki, but it was a lot of fun. I also added my blog to the list, which was also very easy to do. Hmm… maybe I’ll register with Wikipedia and share my extensive knowledge of, um, I dunno, the works of Edith Piaf or something. Now scrolling: The Gettysburg Address. Friday, January 18, 2008. Douglass and King: What if they had traded places? On this weekend celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday, one wonders what things would have been like if King and Frederick Douglass had traded places. What if King had lived during the Civil War and been the one to advise Lincoln on matters of equal rights and emancipation? Would his thinking have been any different from Douglass’s? But what about Douglass? Interesting that these two...
