The Challenge to Care in Charm City. A group blog of ideas and opinions about school reform from graduate students enrolled in an Urban School Reform course. Saturday, April 27, 2013. 8th Grade, Diabetes, and Lead Dust. Recently, I have found myself worrying about two of my 8. Grade boys more than any other students. It’s probably because both of their mothers called me last week to share medical news – medical news that brought both to tears. What can we possibly say or do? So far I’m just trying ...

The Challenge to Care in Charm City. A group blog of ideas and opinions about school reform from graduate students enrolled in an Urban School Reform course. Saturday, April 20, 2013. I often tell my students, “Those who do not understand the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.” I say this when we are reading historical fiction. My kids don’t get history class. 8221; they would argue. “It hasn’t even happened yet. We can’t learn from this! 8220;You can learn tons! In fact, they hate the ̶...

http://survivingthesystem.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Thoughts and comments of a parent of 3 students in Baltimore City's Public Schools. Tuesday, December 20, 2011. So that parents in these desperate situations don't feel forced to keep there kids in this school. There has to be a way out. Yes, I know I'm being emotional, but how the hell can you read this story. And not become emotional? Posted by A BCPSS Parent. Monday, December 19, 2011. Two more essays to go. blah. I think I've written on this before. Why do different colleges have similar essay topics...

Surviving the System: May 2012
http://survivingthesystem.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Thoughts and comments of a parent of 3 students in Baltimore City's Public Schools. Friday, May 25, 2012. I think I'm done. I've been wondering about blogging and why I blog lately. It's generally been gnawing at me this spring, but this post. From a City Schools teacher-blogger (who doesn't blog about schools) brought it to a head. Really, it's bigger than blogging or not, it's about the whole basis of this blog and choices about my kids and their future in the system that gives this blog its title.

Surviving the System: A New Year's Eve hike
http://survivingthesystem.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-new-year-eve-hike.html
Thoughts and comments of a parent of 3 students in Baltimore City's Public Schools. Sunday, August 26, 2012. A New Years Eve hike. On a rainy Sunday morning I was thinking of a post about how commitment means everyday, even when pulling the cover over your head seems like a better idea. Admittedly there were puddles across the path that had to be forded. But that's why I wear butt-ugly crocs on morning walks. The pictures above are from an afternoon walk with. Posted by A BCPSS Parent. Me if you want to.

Thoughts and comments of a parent of 3 students in Baltimore City's Public Schools. Friday, September 14, 2012. In which new names are assigned. This summer brought seismic shifts in our household requiring some new names. My eldest is off to the fantastic UMBC (yes, that university that's always in the news. These days for being so awesome. So the new name is. For twice exceptional kid). I think this explains a lot. A genius kid that can't quickly perform very simple tasks. A kid who just can't ...Feel ...

Surviving the System: Can you stop now?
http://survivingthesystem.blogspot.com/2012/05/can-you-stop-now.html
Thoughts and comments of a parent of 3 students in Baltimore City's Public Schools. Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Can you stop now? So lately, my life has been filled with these balls of stress pounding me like random hailstones. To get appropriate services or FAPE you need a decent, education specific evaluation. In. Case, two evaluations - neuro-psych and speech-language. Insurance won't cover education specific evaluations, and the general medical evaluations that they will cover are useless at IEP meetings.

Thoughts and comments of a parent of 3 students in Baltimore City's Public Schools. Wednesday, May 23, 2012. The illustrations from a classic that came to mind. I'm thinking the 7th circle, but I might be off a bit. After getting bumped from our original date, yesterday we finally had our IEP meeting. Sadly, we got very little done and will have to schedule another. I might not have a lot of happiness at the moment, but I've got tons of resolve and resources. Don't worry gentle readers,. Will get his FAPE.

Surviving the System: January 2012
http://survivingthesystem.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Thoughts and comments of a parent of 3 students in Baltimore City's Public Schools. Friday, January 27, 2012. That's right - no jacket or shoes for a January hike. So today was a catch-up day for me:. Sleep in to 7:30 - not really a task, but I can't remember the last time I did this. Catch up on some work tasks, telecommuting at home. Call b-d who's been sick lately and verify plans for the next time he'll work with msk. Call summer camp manager and see if it's a good fit for msk. Want to learn to drive.

BmoreNomadic
Bmore Nomadic. It's not as easy as it sounds. Years of wanting to do it, months of planning it, and finally the courage to leave our comfortable life behind for a future of uncertainty and unforgettable adventure. This is the story of Kristin and Xavier as we make our way westward from Baltimore to Baltimore, with a few stops in between.

Baltimore to Baltimore…with a few stops in between. Asymp; Leave a comment. April 9, 2013). Posted by Kristin, embellished by Xavier). We spent a few hours getting to know the family, drinking milk tea (and vodka, of course), eating delicious soup and a platter of beef delicacies. I wasn’t too into trying the funny-looking stuff but Xavier had a field day with Bilgee as they both dug into the beef bone marrow (and I think that’s a heart valve or something on the right). Mmmmm good? Warm fur-lined Mongoli...
