Over the past couple of months I've noticed that after idling for a couple of mins my engine temp starts to creep up and then settled down when I drove off, I topped up the coolant level and it was fine for a while. Having fitted my new expansion tank I then needed to drain, flush and refill the coolant, this is fairly easy but time consuming. 1 First drain the old coolant out using either the bottom hose on the left side or the drain plug on the bottom right side. 2 Take off the top right hose and with a garden hose pipe blast some water through a couple of times to encourage the muck out. 3 screw all the pipes back on and tighten the drain plug. 9 Once ...

Monday, 7 January 2008. Middle exhaust box straight pipe replacement. I'm currently working on a straight pipe replacement for my 540, I intend to remove the silencer between the cats and the stock backbox and replace it with a straight pipe. I have reason to believe this will give a nice throaty Muscle car sound and improve the BHP a little. Wednesday, 9 January 2008. FORCED INDUCTION AIR INTAKE. There aren't many induction kits out there for the E39 and the ones that are available cost the earth. The good news is that I'm designing one for the 4.4 and 3.5 (should also fit E38 7 Series and possible X5) and it will be available for sale shortly for under £100. Spec as follows. Lifetime cone filter that does NOT require oiling. Black powder coated 3.5" mandrel bent alloy tube. Black silicone joining collars. Air temperature sensor mount.

I picked up the new tank this morning from EuroCarParts. 163;35 Vat) and some new coolant (£9 VAT) and when I got to fitting it I found that my first job was to whittle. Down the fitting for the coolant level sensor - not the best quality I've seen.
