Jul 10, 2012. July - Too Hot! After the derecho of 2012 roared through (which we survived with no damage) it just got hotter and hotter. A new record for our outdoor thermometer, which is in the shade on north side of the house! It got so hot, the stool Bob was working blew up! No really: the glue dried too fast and it had to be broken up. It's supposed to look like this. Anna's hair was out of control - it had to be piled up out of the way! Going under the GW Parkway. Marshes along the golf course.

Jun 25, 2011. Hello friends and family! I'm making a new commitment to keep the blog updated starting today. Most recently we've been remodeling our one and only bathroom. So far this has involved completely gutting the room, sistering joists, rerouting some plumbing, adding a switch and new light, adding a new GFI plug, and cutting the cast iron toilet waste pipe and converting it to PVC. Today we entered a new phase by putting down the porcelain tiles on the floor! Looking into the crawlspace.

Jul 10, 2012. June Bike Tour of D.C. In June Bob's co-worker was in town and we did the grand tour of DC on bikes early one morning before it got too hot. We ended up doing 20 miles or so. The Old Post Office. The Capitol is huge! Looking out from the Lincoln Memorial. MLK Memorial which was really well done. The stackable vegetable garden is very interesting. Nov 27, 2011. The weather has been amazing the past few weeks. There have been some cool rainy days, but above normal warm days seem to have outnumbered the cool ones. We closed out the long Thanksgiving weekend with a hike at Buck Hollow/Buck Ridge, one of our favorite loop hikes in Shenandoah National Park. And a close-up view. Nov 25, 2011. A great time was had by all, as we reflected on everything we to have to be thankful for. Hors d'oerves were excellent, and it was a nice day to sit outside.

Apr 15, 2012. It has been so warm this spring. a continuation of the warm winter I suppose. The columbines in our yard are liking it, although it seems they are blooming way too early. We, too, have been getting out and enjoying the weather. Easter weekend bike ride with Sam and. The rest of the crew: Marty, Sam,Paola, Anna, Sarah, Laura and Karl. Our instructions from photographer Bob were to look serious. We also had a chance to dust off the sea kayaks and go out at Mason Neck on the Occoquan River.

Oct 19, 2011. We were fortunate to be able to go on the road for nearly six weeks, starting with Old Timer's Reunion in WV over Labor Day weekend. From there we drove to Colorado Springs, spent time with friends, and then explored areas south of Interstate 70. We drove about 6000 miles, did 13 hikes and 17 bike rides.
