Boca Cay Tropicals It's A Jungle Out There. Welcome to my tropical jungle in Germantown, MD just outside of Washington,DC. Saturday, March 19, 2011. Love the bright colors of spring. We hit 80 degrees yestrday. The magnolias, forsythia, daffodils, pansies and hyacinths are in bloom. Enjoy the color. My corkscrew willow greened up in time for St Paddy's day. Star Magnolia and Blue Skies. My pond frogs are back! Beautiful blue anemone de Caen "Harmony Blue". Indigo blues of a hyacinth.

It's been below freezing most of the month. The Robert Young bamboo seems to glow in the winter time. I always vacuum up and shred my leaves and then put them back on the beds with a bit of fertilizer to help break it down to black humus by spring. Angry tropical tiki gods. The Heat is On and On and On. After another week of 100 degree heat, it has cooled to the low 90's. The tropicals seem to be loving it although we need rain badly. 28 July, 2011. I recently rediscovered historical weather data for Lexington, KY that I had. It runs from winter 1947-1948 to winter 2010-2011. In this data set the coldest minimum low for any winter has occurred twice. The first time was during the winter of 1962-1963 on January 24, 1963 and the second time was during the winter of 1993-1994 on January 19, 1994. The low both times was -20f. The warmest minimum low occured druing the winter of 1952-1953 on January 6, 1953 with a low of 14f. 12 Month Year...
