1980s Christian Rock
http://80schristianrock.blogspot.com/2010/01/in-mid-1980s-i-spent-many-saturday_24.html
A memoir of 1980s Christian rock by Jonathan Malloy. Servant, World of Sand. While many share my evangelical background, the music that so shaped me is much more hidden and obscure, and my favourite 1980s pop culture artifacts - like Servant, Prodigal and the Sweet Comfort Band - are virtually unknown today. So this essay, with some help from Youtube, is a memoir of 80s Christian rock as I knew it. She's a Jesus Girl, oh yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yes, she's a J-J-J-J-J-esus girl. Oh yeah, oh yeah. By the 1...

In the glow, then it fades. Saturday, December 16, 2006. Just in time for the holidays, a wave of wii-related injuries! Maybe it's the combination of the thrill of being one of the lucky few to purchase a wii and the lack of sleep from waiting in line all night at the local best buy to purchase one but, in any case, people have been knocking themselves out (quite literally) as they have engaged the wii. check out wii have a problem. For stories and photos. Posted by daniel so at 10:57 PM. We are getting ...

http://headsparks.blogspot.com/2007/03/theres-no-other-way.html
In the glow, then it fades. Friday, March 02, 2007. There's no other way. All of the recent commotion. About some racially offensive skits published in a zondervan/youth specialties book has caused me to spend some time this week seriously considering issues of race, power and faith, and how they are interconnected. no solid conclusions yet; i'm still kicking around ideas in my head. helpful in my thought process these days have been some words that brian mclaren. To be a violent person or dwell in anger...

http://headsparks.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
In the glow, then it fades. Thursday, May 25, 2006. Why do sports have such a powerful effect on people? In about a month, the world cup will begin in germany. the hopes and dreams of 32 nations hang in the balance. football heavyweights brazil (the 2002 champs), england and argentina will be there. along with a first-time appearance from trinidad and tobago. I love how baseball players will use entrance music - apparently derek jeter cues up eminem. However, for me, nothing will ever top the entrance so...

headsparks*: detroit, lift up your weary head! (rebuild! restore! reconsider!)
http://headsparks.blogspot.com/2007/03/detroit-lift-up-your-weary-head-rebuild.html
In the glow, then it fades. Saturday, March 17, 2007. Detroit, lift up your weary head! With a nod to david park over at next gener.asian church. And his series of posts on unique korean virtues that em's aren't teaching our kids. I will share a couple of things that i love and/or appreciate (though sometimes from a distance) about the korean-american (k/a) church. My weekend begins, as it does in many other k/a churches around the country, with early morning prayer. I wonder, though, if my biggest strug...

In the glow, then it fades. Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Reflections on asian-american (youth) ministry: part one. The controversy surrounding "Skits that Teach". A couple of weeks ago, I was able to sit down and meet with Marko. From Youth Specialties. I have been meaning to share for a little while now, but I’ve been struggling to pull together all of my thoughts. However, given that I might never get it all completely together, I want to begin sharing some of my thoughts and reflections. I am thankful tha...

headsparks*: why can't i be you
http://headsparks.blogspot.com/2007/03/why-cant-i-be-you.html
In the glow, then it fades. Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Why can't i be you. I was playing with my three and a half year old daughter the other day. usually, she wants to read together or have a tea party. when we can, we'll go biking or scootering. on this particular day, though, she wanted to pretend to play music together. She took out a little pink inflatable guitar (that my wife picked up as a freebie at a seminar at the national children's pastor's conference. Did i totally screw up? A husband, father ...

headsparks*: August 2006
http://headsparks.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
In the glow, then it fades. Wednesday, August 30, 2006. In july, our family went to see the sound of music. At the hollywood bowl. other than the very drunk people behind us who kept making "general lee" and "luke duke" comments (john schneider played captain von trapp, and was "bo duke" anyhoo), it was a great time! Under my daughter's strict orders, the sound of music. Soundtrack has pretty much been streaming 24/7 around here since. so in honor of (or submission to) tsom. At the most random times.

smile, sweetheart: July 2006
http://smilesweetheart.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 31, 2006. Ashlee Simpson appeared on the July cover of Marie Claire magazine extolling the virtues of appreciating one’s body as it is — then she had a nose job. Marie Claire readers erupted in fury at what they said was Ms. Simpson’s hypocrisy and the magazine’s “cluelessness.” They wrote 1,000 letters in protest to the magazine, according to Joanna Coles, the new editor of the magazine. And she agreed with them. Sunday, July 30, 2006. Love for savage, again. In New York, the court ruled in...
