Are generally used in cohesive soils where segmental augers are rotated into the ground and the soil being penetrated is flighted to the surface by the augers. Where the ground is unstable, temporary casing can be installed in conjunction with the augers to progress the bore. When the predetermined pile length has been achieved, the steel reinforcement is placed and the pile bore is filled with either concrete or grout. ROTARY BORED and DRILLED PILES. Are required for a variety of applications to support excavations for basements and infrastructure in the temporary and permanent situations. These structures can be constructed using drilled, augured or driven minipiles in a contiguous or secant configuration or in a king post system. To limit deflections and achieve greater retention heights, these walls can be tied-back using ground anchors at specific levels and spacing around the wall. ROTARY BORED CONTIGUOUS PILES. Thornfield Heights, Cheshire.

Are formed by driving a crimped closed end, sacrificial thin wall steel casing into the ground using an internal drop hammer. The internal drop hammer drives onto a dry concrete plug/packer at the toe of the casing and additional casings sections are added as the pile is advanced. These casings are joined using full filleted welds. The larger section diameters are capable of carrying working loads of up to 750kN in compression. Hampden Park, Glasgow. St John’s Shopping Centre, Perth.

Are constructed using a variety of drilling techniques to penetrate the overburden material and form rock sockets. Concentric, eccentric or duplex systems are used to penetrate the overburden soil before down the hole hammers and rotary bits are used to penetrate the rock. This technique uses either temporary or permanent casing and the arisings can be flushed from the bore using air, water, foam, grout or polymer. DRILLED, PERMANENTLY CASED MINIPILES.
