Flowers for all occasions. British flower growers are enjoying a real renaissance and many new flower farms are starting up all over the country. Their delightful flowers are my first choice when it comes to selecting flowers for weddings and workshops and I am proud to have been accepted to the British Flower collective – a group of enthusiastic growers and florists who are dedicated to supporting seasonal and locally grown flowers and foliage. Flowers for all occasions. Monday, March 30th, 2015 / No Comments. Did you know that tulips continue to grow after they have been cut? This is why many people think they have ‘flopped’ out of a vase when in fact they have grown and the heads become heavier than the stems. A great way to arrange tulips is to use a fish bowl. Here’s how:. Add about 3cm of water to the bowl – try not to splash up the sides. Take one bunch of tulips (5 or 7 work best). Cut the stems where the lower leaf joins and remove.

Flowers for all occasions. Saturday, May 16th, 2015 / No Comments. This week I decided to do an experiment with some Sarah Bernhardt peonies. They can be a florist’s nightmare as they can take ages to come out often arriving the size of table tennis balls only for them to go all blousy and peak too early! I read two theories on trying to coax them out – hitting the flower head smartly on the table top (ouch! They will come out when they are good and ready. Here’s their photo diary:. Flowers for all occasions. Monday, April 13th, 2015 / No Comments. Here’s a new way to display your weekly daffs – these gel beads expand in water and the bright yellow base looks fab with the daffodils. Because daffodils don’t need a huge amount of water (remember when you bought them they will have been stored completely dry) they thrive well in the beads. The beads can be re-used many times – just rinse and store in an airtight container. Take a vase and the gel beads (available from Chez Fleur).
