Saturday, November 8, 2014. Saying Goodbye to Nacuxa and my life as a PCV. The quote “no one said it’d be easy, they just promised it would be worth it” really describes my life as a Peace Corps Volunteer. There were times when I thought there was no way I could make it another week let alone two years in a foreign country. I am so happy that I can proudly say that I made it! I'm leaving my Mozambican family but returning to my American one. Vou ter muito suadades de vocês! See you in a week, America!

Monday, March 24, 2014. The past few weeks have been crazy busy! I have been giving tests, lesson planning, helping students and teachers with English as well as planning the volunteer training for the tutoring program. We were supposed to have the training last Saturday but only 2 students showed up because there was a women's football game going on. We are going to have the training on Wednesday and then hoping to start the tutoring program next week. Close up of the ata fruit. A look at how the local ...

Monday, February 17, 2014. 2 steps forward, 3 steps back. This last weekend some friends and I decided to celebrate Valentine's Day by having a spa day. So I traveled to Meconta, about 2 and a half hours away to celebrate Valentine's Day with my friends Jamie, Liz and Pam! We had a lot of fun.Liz made us some chocolate coffee face masks and we even got to soak our feet and have manicures and pedicures. It was just a really fun and relaxing weekend. I ate better in Meconta than I have in weeks! A primary ...

Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Oh, how the time is flying. I really thought I was going to be better at updating my blog this year. I thought since it was my second year I'd have more free time since I was finally getting into routine but that was so wrong. My second (and final! The last few weeks have been very exciting because we finally started the tutoring program at the primary school! Hope you enjoy the pictures! Two of our tutors with their group of 2nd/3rd graders. Tuesday, September 23, 2014. An update through pictures. I haven't had a chance to sit down and write a blog post for awhile so I decided to post some pictures from the last month instead. After this week life will slow down a bit and I'm hoping to write another post. At the beginning of September our Moz 19 group of PCVs (peace corps volunteers) had our COS (Close of Service Conference). Here are some pictures of my Peace Corps family :). Anna B and I. Jamie, Casey, Me, Hannah and Nick. Jamie B and I.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Our New and Improved Library! We still have tutoring every Tuesday and Thursday but now we have a space for everything and have activities for those kids who are not participating in tutoring. I'm hoping this week we get more students in to read the books and have fun! My goal is to get kids into the library, reading books and learning how fun it can be to sit down with a good book! Here are some pictures from our first day open in the new space :). Look at all of our books! The c...

Wednesday, October 23, 2013. A blog in pictures. I have been really behind on posting blogs recently and decided it'd be faster to post some pictures from the past few weeks. Most of the pictures are from Dia dos professores (Teacher's day) on October 12th. I hope to have some free time this weekend and a break from grading to write another blog post. Until then here are some pictures from the past few weeks. :). Mozambicans love to dance. Here are most of my colleagues showing off their dance moves.

Saturday, October 11, 2014. Sorry it's been a few weeks since my last post about getting ready for English Theater. The competition went well and Nacuxa won first place and one of our girls won Best Actress! All their hard-work and practicing really paid off. They were so happy! We were able to go celebrate at the beach and then when we got back to Nacuxa we drove around the school dancing and singing in the car. It's safe to say everyone in our town knows we won. :).
