My Grandmother's Buttermilk Doughnuts. 1 cup white sugar. 1/4 cup melted shortening (looks gross, but go with it). 1 cup of cold mashed potatoes. 4 cups of flour (generous). 4 tsps baking powder. 1 tsp baking soda. 1 tsp nutmeg (can use less if nutmeg isn't your thing).
