http://bonnierannald.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Wildflowers at Walker Lake, Nevada. Springtime in the Great Basin Desert! Whether it is intense heat in the summer or frigid cold during the winter, Nature in the desert is always being challenged to adapt to harsh conditions. These challenges, when nature must adapt to survive, present fascinating photo opportunities and are the reason that I am so drawn to the desert. The Desert Plume, Stanleya pinnata. Brilliant Desert Dandelions were growing in batches through out the region.

Bonnie Rannald's Photo-Explorations: Tunneling Back to Jurassic Times
http://bonnierannald.blogspot.com/2015/02/tunneling-back-to-jurassic-times.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Tunneling Back to Jurassic Times. A Mystery Tunnel to where? I had stopped to photograph an unusual outcropping of rocks that reminded me of a Dimetrodon, the dinosaur with the large sail and elongated spines on its back. Just as I was returning to my car, in the distance I saw what appeared to be the opening to a large cave. However, when I walked closer to the opening, I realized it was a not a cave but a tunnel cut through the base of the mountain. Walking through the nort...

Monday, April 13, 2015. Spring's Arrival of Painted Lady Butterflies. What's Buzzing on the Brussel Sprouts Blooms. One afternoon as I walked by the yellow flowers, I saw so much activity that I grabbed my Nikon with the 150mm macro lens and waited nearby. Not only were the blossoms attracting the butterflies, numerous worker bees were buzzing around, collecting the pollen. A Painted Lady with its straw-like proboscis unraveled, eating nectar from the flower. With my Nikon and tripod, my goal is to recre...

Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Exploring Nevada's Ghost Towns. Pyramids, hieroglyphics and. Mayan Temple in the Great Basin Desert? Driving through the desert will often turn up exciting and intriguing finds, like when I stumbled upon what appeared to be an excavation site of some ancient civilization. As curiosity got the better of me, I left my truck and walked for a closer view. That was when I saw a number of paintings on the 25 foot tall pyramid columns that resembled hieroglyphics. After checking GPS...

Monday, April 27, 2015. Intimate Moments with a Filaree Storksbill. Catching the spring loaded seed propagation. One of the first spring wildflowers to bloom in the Southwestern U. S. also happens to be one of the smallest, the Filaree Storksbill. Native to Eurasia and in the Geranium Family (Geraniacea) this plant was brought to America by the early Spanish settlers. After the seed is launched, it floats through the air on feathery parachutes. When the seed contacts the ground, it becomes self-burie...
