BookBath: Reading Madame Bovary - Amanda Lohrey

http://bookbath.blogspot.com/2011/10/reading-madame-bovary-amanda-lohrey.html

October 17, 2011. Reading Madame Bovary - Amanda Lohrey. I fully admit to being drawn to this book by it's title and the gorgeous cover. I have said it before, but I will say it again - I am a publishers dream! Is a collection of short stories by Australian author, Amanda Lohrey, published last year and read oh so long ago by me but only now being dug out from the "to be reviewed on blog" pile. http://bookbath.blogspot.com/2011/10/hare-with-amber-eyes-edmund-de-waal.html

October 25, 2011. The Hare with Amber Eyes - Edmund de Waal. The Hare with Amber Eyes. Is one of those books I have been hearing/reading/seeing lots of little tid bits about but I hadn't actually read a comprehensive review of the book when I picked it up for myself. After finishing it I can imagine it being one of those books that you either fall in love with - or you don't. I am definitely in the "fallen" category! October 26, 2011 at 3:31 PM. Alex (The Sleepless Reader). I have this evil plan to get m...

BookBath: Past The Shallows - Favel Parrett

http://bookbath.blogspot.com/2011/09/past-shallows-favel-parrett.html

September 30, 2011. Past The Shallows - Favel Parrett. There was so much about Past The Shallows. That I just couldn't go past. The title for a start, so simple, so beautiful, so tempting. The fact that this is the first novel of a young, female Australian author - a group of writers I like to support whenever I can. The cover, gloriously colourful and yet discreet at the same time. And then there is the author's name - how gorgeous and unique is it? 65279;It is so lovely to hear an author speak this way...

BookBath: Pigeon English - Stephen Kelman

http://bookbath.blogspot.com/2011/10/pigeon-english-stephen-kelman.html

October 15, 2011. Pigeon English - Stephen Kelman. Is one of the shortlisted book for this years Man Booker Prize. And it would have to be the first book from the list that I have been disappointed in. Pigeon English has been compared to Room. Which I was also disappointed in) and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. Thanks for posting about this book. Im always interested to read the Man Booker list. But since time is so limited and there are lots of TBRs, I appreciate honest opini...It wa...

BookBath: Jamrach's Menagerie - Carol Birch

http://bookbath.blogspot.com/2011/09/jamrachs-menagerie-carol-birch.html

September 26, 2011. Jamrach's Menagerie - Carol Birch. Yet another book shortlisted for the 2011 Man Booker Prize. That has completely blown me away - and, again, it was a book I would never have picked up in a million years if I was not working my way through this prize list determined to read them all! Had three things against it when it came to drawing me in as a reader, firstly, it's cover. Without getting too technical, I just don't like it! But in the end I was completely won over. This is one I ho...

Library of the Black Cat: February 2013

http://libraryoftheblackcat.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Library of the Black Cat. The black cat reads voraciously, leaping from book to book, seeking always to lose herself in the pages. What to read next? What to choose from the piles beside the chairs? Holidays measured by the days spent reading, evenings saved from the wasteland of television by stories spun in the imagination. Saturday, February 9, 2013. 1 In New England , I'd be a tourist with so many places to visit. 2 The concept of. LOTS of snow is not possible in Melbourne, unless its fake! Interesti...

Book Burrower: The Spinning Heart - Donal Ryan

http://bookburrower.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-spinning-heart-donal-ryan.html

The Spinning Heart - Donal Ryan. With Ireland as backdrop, it is easy to see why the setting is bleak. However, the writing is quite good. It could be a new style of narration, I am not sure, but there were too many perspectives, too many characters. The disadvantage of a story told by too many people is that you cant really leave it mid-way to pick it up later. You tend to forget some of them and it would be paragraphs and paragraphs of story that you are trying to make sense of. 2016 - Reading Plan.

Book Burrower: Reading List - May

http://bookburrower.blogspot.com/2015/04/reading-list-may.html

Reading List - May. Books that I was supposed to have finished in March are still pending. Well, not all, but some yes. I am pushing three books of April month to May and so, now May will have to bear the additional burden of three books. It is too ambitious to read six, but no harm in trying, considering I am already reading a couple of them before May begins. So here it goes:. 1 Wasp Factory - Ian Banks. 2 On the Road - Jack Kerouac. 3 Revival - Stephen King. 4 High Fidelity - Nick Hornby. Tokyo Cancel...

Book Burrower: High Fidelity - Nick Hornby

http://bookburrower.blogspot.com/2015/05/high-fidelity-nick-hornby.html

High Fidelity - Nick Hornby. I just could not read this book. There was really not much I could relate to - the hero or the other characters or even the music scene. I am sure it is because of the cultural differences, and because so much is about music I don't know, but a great book is supposed to transcend all such barriers and just touch the emotions that is universal amongst humanity. Too much of effort. for nothing. I can't categorize it as completed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 2015 - Books...
