Joining the Great Conversation. On June 3, 2013 by u2isgr8. The Apology is of course Socrates’ defense before the jury of Athens upon being accused of subverting the youth of the city and questioning the existence of the gods. Euthyphro recounts a dialogue on his way to this defense. The main question, if you can call it such, would be, “Is Socrates Impious? Socrates demonstrates here rousing logic in proving he cannot be convicted of such, but he loses the jury’s decision and is sentenced to death.

Joining the Great Conversation. Laquo; Plato and His “Forms”. This was a long one. Phaedo is dealing with a question, and I believe it is something like, “How is the Immortality of the Soul proven? Many topics are covered to get at this question of the immortality of the soul. On to my notes from my reading:. On Plato’s Forms. There is a great deal of the use of opposites and contradictions in this discussion. A thing cannot be two opposite things at the same time. Thus the soul cannot both be li...8220;...

Joining the Great Conversation. Plato and His “Forms”. The following are my notes/thoughts on this key issue in Plato and his “Forms”:. As I can figure it out, in arguing against the Sophistic notion that all truth is relative to the knower, Plato was one of the first clear “rationalists” believing and arguing that truth is real, and outside the knower. Because some of his teaching led toward the Gnostic heresy, many in Christendom would pan Plato out of pocket. But I suggest that there is some affin...

Joining the Great Conversation. Laquo; Howard’s End – the dying German. This book is not for the feint of heart, and I am not sure what one will learn reading it, but I have gained much to consider and much to have renewed compassion upon as God gives me ability. Joining the Great Conversation. Howard’s End – the dying German. First, I have real trouble getting this title out of my mouth. “Thee ayy tee tus” I think. But that is easily dispelled by someone who actually knows…. I particularly enjoyed working through the discussion of “knowledge is perception.” I think this has in fact become an issue in modern times. Plato seems to thoroughly refute the concept. Book Chase | your home for everything bookish
Your home for everything bookish. January 12, 2017. January 11, 2017. Marked my completion of exactly one dozen short story compilations in 2016, allowing me to reach what, coming into the year, I figured would be one of the more unachievable goals I had set for myself. Needless to say, I enjoy short fiction as much as anything I read today, and this Oxford University Press publication reminds me why that is. Experience that can often be had by reading descriptive fiction from the past. There are sto...

Saturday, 6 August 2011. Book review of The Secret Quest by S. M. Martins. Hi there, and welcome to book chat. Because I'm such an avid reader, I would love to share my reading experiences with the world and maybe even help you all select the right book for you. My first review is on a novel I read from a new author S. M. Martins entitled The Secret Quest. This book was a really nice and easy read, especially from a new author. The pace was fast and compelling, very hard to put down.
