Book Club Junkie

I'm an at-home mom of three kids who needs a little literary prompting. For that reason, I've joined 2 book clubs, a writers' group and a movie group. So here's my proposition: I read the books, attend the book clubs, and tell you what we thought. You'll never have to go to someone else's home, bring a snack, dress up, agonize over a list of questions as leader, or play nice. You can attend vicariously. Then tell me what you thought of the books.

Book Club Junkie: Connecting with "Mrs. Bridge"

http://bookclubjunkie.blogspot.com/2013/11/trying-to-connect-with-mrs-bridge.html

Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Connecting with "Mrs. Bridge". The Fab 5 met tonight to discuss and dissect the life and times of Mrs. Bridge, the subject of the novel by the same name by Evan S. Connell published in 1959. This choice was my doing; I’ve been interested in reading the book for quite a while. Book Club Junkie: Judiciously Recommending "The Dog Stars"

http://bookclubjunkie.blogspot.com/2012/09/judiciously-recommending-dog-stars.html

Thursday, September 13, 2012. Judiciously Recommending "The Dog Stars". Here's a new novel for all you post-apocalyptic fiction fans. Yes, I realize that this is becoming a rather saturated segment of the book market, but bear with me. In this one, there is no capital, there is no arena. No aliens, no districts. There is just a broken world. And it’s definitely not written for the young adult market. By Cormac McCarthy. However, Heller is, among other things, a writer for Outside Magazine. The Neland Wom...

Book Club Junkie: March 2012

http://bookclubjunkie.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Fab 5 Book Club: The Glass Castle. Tonight the Fab 5 had yet another intense, esoteric book discussion. I actually had to look up esoteric just now to make sure it meant what I wanted to say, which, once you read the definition is rather ironic. I’ll let you get your own dictionary if you need to. Anyway. The Fab 5 tackled. Walls is a great writer, and she manages to tell incredibly sad stories with beauty and wit. That almost goes without saying, since this dark family tal...

Book Club Junkie: October 2011

http://bookclubjunkie.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Monday, October 10, 2011. A Room with No View. While on vacation, I decided I get to read one or two books that I don't NEED to read, but just want to. I've been wanting to read. By Emma Donoghue for a while now, and finally got my chance. Several times now I've had to tell someone what I'm reading and try to describe what it is about. It's just not that easy! It sounds so horrible. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My Other Blogs (because my husband can't listen to me talk 24/7). Friday Noon Movie Club. We ar...
