book hoot: November 2010
http://bookhoot.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Book H00t #36 13 R3asons Why. Clay Jensen returns home from school one day to find a box sitting on his doorstep. Upon opening it, he discovers that it is a shoebox containing seven cassette tapes recorded by the late Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who recently committed suicide. Thirteen reasons why I didn't love this book:. 1 Stupid number/ letter title. 2 The main character Clay, is on Hannah's list when he hasn't wronged her in any way- it's all a narrative ruse. 11 I wanted it to be better, I...

H00t #38 Fruitloops and Dipsticks. What would you do if you're the new girl at school and the teacher mistakes you for a boy? Would you have the guts to go along with it? This is a lovely coming of age story. I particularly enjoyed the Scandinavian names and landscape. It is part of the Gecko Press. Collections of "Seriously good books from around the world.". Stark writes Simone's grandfather beautifully. He has some sage advice for her, but also for the reader:. I can promise you'll enjoy the ride.

Book h00t #40 Dash and Lily's Book Of Dares. While I'm waiting for David Levithan's The Lover's Dictionary. I snaffled this from the school library before it was even processed! For me, the e-book will never replace the joy of a brand new book, with perfectly smooth spine. The book was co-written with Rachel Cohn, like Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Where there are 18 miles of books! When people say right person, wrong time. Or wrong person,. It's usually a cop out. They think that fate is playi...
book hoot: B00k H00t #44 The Golden Day
http://bookhoot.blogspot.com/2011/06/b00k-h00t-44-golden-day.html
B00k H00t #44 The Golden Day. Ursula Dubosarsky's The Golden Day. Is beautifully written and the story will haunt you for quite a while. It opens with a class of eleven small girls being led by their teacher, Miss Renshaw into some gardens for a spontaneous excursion. The book is set in the late sixties, and opens on the day that Ronald Ryan was hanged. The girls and their teacher go to the gardens ostensibly to 'think about death'. Miss Renshaw is clearly a bit of a hippie:. Is probably the film that I ...

Research for my PhD thesis. The Future of Reading. Leave a comment ». To continue on the theme of reading books, the March issue of Incite. The news magazine of ALIA, the professional association for librarians and other information professionals, had the theme The Future of Reading. That book was hell good. Tournament of the Books Update. So the WINNER of the inaugural ToB is. The Hunger Games. It was a pretty universal choice in the end. And rightly so, it's a page turner, there's a feisty female and a movie in the wings. The Tournament was a success. I'll never forget the cheers and high-fiving that went on over BOOKS! The Tournament of the Books. While this is a departure from the stock standard review entry for me, I just needed to get this idea down while it was still fresh in my head. So then we had e...

Random thoughts on random books. Bull;August 8, 2012 • Leave a Comment. Not sure how we got to August already, but here’s what I’ve been reading on the way there…. Recently finished: Yesterday, I wrapped up. By Rebecca Stead (the Newbery Award winner for. When You Reach Me). I loved it so much I very nearly started reading it over again from the beginning. I definitely intend to write a more extensive (possibly gushing) post soon. Also, the always reliable Jennifer Weiner’s newest,. The Next Best Thing.
