Sarcastic Female Literary Circle. Where Feminism and Literature Combine! Goodreads - Friend Me. Shelfari - Who Doesn't Love a Classic. Thursday, June 30, 2011. Well, the good folks at Booking Through Thursday. Decided to make me try and do some math this week. Whomp whomp. Actually I’m quite good at math I just don’t like it, not one bit! So this week on the blog hop I was asked:. What’s the largest your personal library has ever been? Estimates are fine.). Or have you down-sized? Links to this post.

Tuesday, 14 May 2013. Bout of Books - The Updates. So this is how it works, right? I post about each day's progress after the day is over? Well, it's now 10.30am on Tuesday and I've only just woken up (oh, how I love. Having time off work), and so now seems like a good time to tell you about yesterday, and also set up the post for future updates through the week. I got off to a great start and read one whole book. It was quite a chunky book too. To be honest, Ferney. Books read from - Ferney. In the morn...

Page Plucker: Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson

Monday, 6 May 2013. Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson. Jeanette Winterson has long been on my mental list of authors I’ve been meaning to get round to, and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. Seemed like an obvious place to start. It’s a semi-autobiographical novel about a young girl coming of age in the North of England, and it’s probably her most famous and critically acclaimed work. Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. Page Plucker: Final Demand by Deborah Moggach
http://www.pageplucker.com/2013/05/final-demand-by-deborah-moggach.html
Sunday, 26 May 2013. Final Demand by Deborah Moggach. This book was a Christmas gift from my stepfather, who became mildly obsessed after watching the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movie and went on a mission to read everything Deborah Moggach had written. Of all the books he tried, this sounded the most intriguing and it was nice to finally get around to reading it. There's a touch of the Muriel Spark about Final Demand. Or The Public Image. Perhaps it's simply the way the author manages to say so much in ...

Page Plucker: Tideline by Penny Hancock
http://www.pageplucker.com/2013/05/tideline-by-penny-hancock.html
Friday, 24 May 2013. Tideline by Penny Hancock. Was included in the Richard and Judy list last year, and I bought it in a fit of enthusiasm as soon as I heard the premise. Like so many of these “must have” purchases, as soon as I got it home somehow other books seemed to take priority and this has sat forlornly on my shelf ever since. It's a shame I waited so long, because Tideline. Was a suspenseful and creepy book that well deserved all its rave reviews. I did have one gripe with Tideline,. The Picture...

Page Plucker: The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
http://www.pageplucker.com/2013/05/the-picture-of-dorian-gray-by-oscar.html
Wednesday, 15 May 2013. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Part of the reason I wanted to read this is because I've got Will Self's novel, Dorian. Sitting on my shelf and I thought I might get more out of it if I'd read this first. Of course, most of us know the story, but with something this well known it can often be surprising to read the original novel and see how it can differ from your preconceptions. Were read out at Wilde's trial as evidence against him. And found it a little slow moving ...
