Economic Despair: January 2008
http://economicdespair.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Britney Spears back in hospital. It is only a matter of time before the men in white coat come for Bernanke. A recession just in time for the superbowl. It looks like the recession is already here. From the New York Times. Consumer spending slowed in December and inflation continued to rise, the government said Thursday, leaving the Federal Reserve little leeway as it ponders policy decisions in the months ahead. As spending slows, prices continue to rise, a combination that has some economists suggestin...

Economic Despair: December 2007
http://economicdespair.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Can the housing market get any worse? Month after month, the numbers from the nation's housing market deteriorate. Sales of new homes have plunged even more than expected to their lowest level in more than 12 years, leaving the market glutted with unsold homes and pointing to more trouble ahead for the battered housing market. New home sales tumbled 9 percent in November to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 647,000, according to a Census Bureau report Friday. Cramer meets Ron Paul. If 2007 was the yea...

Buyers just don't understand mortgages. Why are mortgages so complicated? In principle, it is just a long term loan used to buy real estate. Yet, mortgage products have become so complex that no one understands them anymore. 183; Nearly nine out of 10 borrowers could not identify the correct amount of upfront charges connected with a loan. 183; Two-thirds did not identify a potentially nasty trap lurking in the loan; a substantial penalty if they refinanced within the first two years. Perhaps not. Th...

Economic Despair: Renterrs evicted due to foreclosures
http://economicdespair.blogspot.com/2008/04/renterrs-evicted-due-to-foreclosures.html
Renterrs evicted due to foreclosures. Foreclosures aren't always kind to renters. Nearly 80 Baltimore City apartment tenants have been evicted from their homes this year, all because the buildings they live in have been sold in foreclosure. The red-hot housing market of just a few years ago turned many area residents into real estate investors, hoping to buy and quickly sell properties at a handsome profit in just a matter of months. When the market cooled, many of those investors were left with home...

What is a dollar worth? Jobless claims are up. Today, the US labor department provided dismal unemployment numbers. The number of newly laid off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits skyrocketed and posted the largest increase since early February. Benefit applications reached 337,000 last week, an increase of 28,000 from the previous week - the biggest one-week surge since jobless claims jumped 42,000 the week of Feb. 10. Economic Despair: California's collapsing tax revenues
http://economicdespair.blogspot.com/2008/03/californias-collapsing-tax-revenues.html
California's collapsing tax revenues. After the shake-down, the shake out begins. Sacramento may eliminate up to 600 jobs in the city's first staff reductions in half a century, and the police and fire departments in the California capital may have their budgets cut by 20 percent. The culprit is the collapse of the U.S. housing market. Very nice article, just what I wanted to find. Look at my website - private krankenversicherung preisvergleich. February 21, 2013 at 9:30 PM. Economic Despair: Rent free
http://economicdespair.blogspot.com/2008/04/rent-free.html
I didn't know how generous banks could be. Banks are so overwhelmed by the U.S. housing crisis they've started to look the other way when homeowners stop paying their mortgages. The number of borrowers at least 90 days late on their home loans rose to 3.6 percent at the end of December, the highest in at least five years, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association in Washington. That figure, for the first time, is almost double the 2 percent who have been foreclosed on. September 28, 2011 at 11:44 PM.

Economic Despair: July 2007

For US home builders. The current market is "challenging". In PR-speak, the word "challenging" means "total, unmitigated disaster". Today, confidence among U.S. home builders. Crumbled this month to the lowest level in 16 years. The home builder sentiment index declined to 24 this month. We have to go back to January 1991 to find it at a lower reading. Things are so bad, it must be a challenge. For US home builders to even get themselves out of bed in the morning. Where are the foreclosure epicentres?
