A Garden in Bootjack: October 2011
https://bootjackgardener.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
A Garden in Bootjack. Monday, October 31, 2011. One Last Warm Day. Today I got off a bit early from work. It's so nice to be home when the sun is still up, but today it was warm too. What a blessing! Idea, let's take a long view. If you were to come for a visit here in Bootjack, you would drive several miles down a dirt road. If you were a skillful enough navigator, you might find our driveway. You might not. Looking to the left, Oak Woodland. Look up the hill and you see old, hollow, bat filled trees.

A Garden in Bootjack. Monday, October 22, 2012. Making Compost Is A Bit Like Panning For Gold. After much labor, a precious substance. (But not very much.). The compost turned out pretty good this year! It's hard to believe that all. The stuff that was pulled out and chopped down has condensed itself into a small pile that will just barely be enough to feed the vegetable garden. Maybe Do I need awesome biceps? Feed your soil well and your plants will be fine. What's that Mr. Earthworm? Larger creatures a...
A Garden in Bootjack: Permanent Wilting Point
https://bootjackgardener.blogspot.com/2014/12/permanent-wilting-point.html
A Garden in Bootjack. Tuesday, December 2, 2014. PWP) or wilting point. WP) is defined as the minimal point. Of soil moisture the plant requires not to wilt. If moisture decreases to this or any lower point. A plant wilts and can no longer recover its turgidity when placed in a saturated atmosphere for 12 hours. Yep That about sums it up. Compare the above to the same shot a few years back:. We had a bit of a drought, you see. Couldn't you just cry? I did get to do a few fun things I'd like to share.
A Garden in Bootjack: April 2012
https://bootjackgardener.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
A Garden in Bootjack. Monday, April 16, 2012. I wish I could say I deserve this salad, that I put in hours of careful planning and hard work, but the truth is, it was an accident. Today, for my first harvest of the year, I'm joining Daphne and friends for Harvest Monday. Where you can see what lots of other friendly people are growing all over the world. (On purpose I bet, too.). Green onions came up in the gravel too. Have you ever let a green onion grow a second year? Last month my asparagus arrived!
A Garden in Bootjack: Junemanji
https://bootjackgardener.blogspot.com/2012/06/junemanji.html
A Garden in Bootjack. Friday, June 1, 2012. June has arrived in Bootjack with more than its usual drama. Shall we take a little safari? As you walk in the front gate, little white shrub roses are busting out of their enclosure. These are my first success with cuttings. Here we are inside the gate. Columbine has gone to seed and Bee Balm is taking over. Soon the front garden will be filled with round, purple flowers. And the buzzing of a thousand bees. Hot Lips' is a stupid name. I love this plant. You ca...

Bees to the Rescue. Of Giant Moths, Nanking Cherries and Sea Side Plums →. March 11, 2012. Spent the day propagating plants. Back in fall, I tried my hand at ground layering, a technique that involves burying part of a plant stem to encourage the plant to root in place. Specifically, I bent a long blackcurrant. Today, I unburied the layered section, and was delighted to find roots! Line art drawing of ground layering (above) donated to the Wikimedia Foundation. And released into the public domain. I also...

Seeding Nettles and Others. May 25, 2015. Finally got around to seeding (a little late, I realize) stinging nettles (. Creeping Oregon grape (. The nettles I planted for pesto, the alum root because I’m intrigued by its astringent properties, and the Oregon grape and salal I hope to one day add to the most recent native food forest plot. In other news, the bare root walnut I planted early in the spring has finally awakened, and, having learned the hard way that deer will eat young walnut leaves. I am try...

A Garden in Bootjack. Saturday, December 3, 2016. I was a wild thing once. I remember the little creatures I found as I explored. That was a long time ago.
