Round the Underground on an Engine – Fred T. Jane. The Romance of Modern London: III-Round the Underground on an Engine. Written and Illustrated by our Artist-Commissioner Fred T. Jane. In a short time our train rushed into the station, and a moment later we had boarded the engine. I was accommodated with a position near the left-hand tank, whence I could get an uninterrupted view ahead; but it had its drawbacks as the water in that tank was hot. Under the Underground (shades of Artillery Lane). From Far...

Tottering into the future. Vague ramblings on railways, mountains, beer, cricket and libraries. Oh, and malt whisky. And a year later! The Lakes trip has come round again! However, the annual Lakes trip took place on the traditional weekend, but the weather was so grim, especially on the Saturday (downpour all day), that very few photos were taken. The one below is presented as evidence the trip DID take place! From → Mountains. Larr; The Lakes provides a lift. Botanic business…. →. You are commenting us...

History | Basilica Fields
https://basilicafields.wordpress.com/history
Provenance and Brief History of Basilica Fields. A Capital Tale of Two Cities. London, the capital of England and centre of government for Great Britain and the British Empire, is in fact not one but two cities, within a greater conurbation. If the City of London is the commercial capital then the City of Westminster is its civic and cultural equivalent, containing government departments, embassies, theatres and galleries, hotels, gentlemen’s clubs, and purveyors of fine items to the gentry. The large co...

Botanic business…. | Tottering into the future
https://chrisl1953.wordpress.com/2013/11/27/botanic-business
Tottering into the future. Vague ramblings on railways, mountains, beer, cricket and libraries. Oh, and malt whisky. Time for an update on. The Hull MRS P4 layout we in the East Yorkshire Group of the Scalefour Society are building…. The two shops (well, strictly one shop and one piano dealer) are now 99% finished, with only the stones of the yard to paint and weather, and the wooden posts that support the roof edges at the back of the rear extensions to finish. Here’s some pics:. Enter your comment here.

The march of the terraces… | Tottering into the future
https://chrisl1953.wordpress.com/2014/05/14/the-march-of-the-terraces
Tottering into the future. Vague ramblings on railways, mountains, beer, cricket and libraries. Oh, and malt whisky. The march of the terraces…. 8230;well, more of a saunter, really. When put next to the shops which are now all but finished (yard still needs weathering and 2 support posts for the rear roof extensions need adding), it’s looking good. The terraces in place on the layout. Should look good when completed…. A different view from the front…. And one from the back. Still a lot to do! Get every ...

Tottering into the future. Vague ramblings on railways, mountains, beer, cricket and libraries. Oh, and malt whisky. 8230;and then – something happened! While it’s true to say that I haven’t blogged much recently – for a couple of months, actually – it’s not true to say that nothing’s been happening! I haven’t blogged mainly because a) I was away in Wales for a while, and b) I was heavily involved in preparations for my daughter’s wedding. Excuses, excuses…. A great view of Snowdon – cloud-free! From the...
