Botanical Illustration Classes in Vancouver Elizabeth Mancini. April 7, 2014. This dancing cob of corn took Pam months to complete. She drew and redrew, painted and repainted until finally this light-infused image came into being. Pam worked hard on the texture of the leaves and the the shaping of each individual kernel, careful to keep the light in both areas. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Vancouver, BC, Canada. Botanical Illustration Classes in Vancouver Elizabeth Mancini. April 7, 2014. Ena's been painting feathers, lots of feathers. and been doing a marvelous job. They're very hard to photograph and get the tiny, soft details of these down feathers. This painting conveys their light airiness very well, both in its handling and composition. It's been great watching Ena paint these feathers. This post feature some of her shades of grey, with some colour to follow in another post. Stay tuned.

Botanical Illustration Classes in Vancouver Elizabeth Mancini. April 7, 2014. Elizabeth's most recent painting. bright red Anthuriums and their heart-shaped leaf provided her with many challenges. Botanical Illustration Classes in Vancouver Elizabeth Mancini. January 7, 2015. Susan painted this large leaf in the fall. We usually see Brunnera in clusters close to the ground, missing the grace of the stem with its gentle curve and the interesting raised-vein pattern under the leaf. Painting or drawing something like this can help us to see it with new eyes. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Vancouver, BC, Canada. View my complete profile. Botanical Illustration Classes in Vancouver Elizabeth Mancini. December 26, 2013. A sketchbook page of blind-contour drawings done during a session of Seeing Meditation classes this past summer. I love the truth of these drawings. They can be all over the place but they capture the true shapes and individuality of the subject. And here is the painting that followed. http://www.verysmallstudio.com/2013/09/mary-frost-marys-been-working-hard-on.html
Botanical Illustration Classes in Vancouver Elizabeth Mancini. September 14, 2013. Mary's been working hard on her beloved iris series over the past 3 years. Some of these works began last Iris season, in 2012, and had to rest until they could be finished this year. The iris is one of the most challenging of flowers to paint due to the bloom's short lifespan, generally lasting all of two days at the outside. Keeping them in the fridge helps. a little.
