.Nerd Club: November 2009

Posted by Chris Holden. On Sunday, November 29, 2009. It seemed pretty obvious, we'd got a rectangle drawn on screen, we'd got some characters drawn on the screen, the next logical step was to put some characters on top of a rectangle. Drawn correctly, a few lines of characters drawn over a rectangle could look just like a menu. How about that then? We've also fixed the bug when drawing characters, so they all have lovely nice outlines around them and can be drawn on any coloured background. Well, whenev...

Meetup: Wildlife, Plaques, Robots, Show and Tell. Tue 30th Mar 2010 at 8 pm. The Skiff, 49 Cheltenham Place, Brighton. We've got a busy lineup for this 5app. Will be talking about Wildlife Near You. Which as part of a team of twelve they mostly built in a fort. Will discuss Open Plaques. That aims to find and provide data about all the commemorative 'plaques' (often blue and round) that can be found across the UK and worldwide.". And maybe his iPhone-controlled maze solver. A tale of hardware hacking.

Reading and writing to flash memory via USB. Posted by Chris Holden. On Saturday, October 31, 2009. Re-reading the AT45DB041D Flash memory datasheet. Using the chip like an oversized eeprom looks like it could cause us a few problems, namely because of the architecture of the memory. On page 4 of the datasheet, we can see that data needs to be written in 256-byte blocks, or pages. As they are called. Data is stored in an internal buffer before being transferred to/from main storage. Posted by Chris Holden.

http://nerdclubuk.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Posted by Chris Holden. On Sunday, May 31, 2009 in glcd. Before any others are anywhere near complete, it's time to add yet another project to the Nerd Club Blog. It's actually part of the Game Score Device. But because there's a lot going on with it, a separate project was created for this LCD Keychain Photo Album Hack. Any way, there it is - a new project: how to hack a keychain LCD photo album. After all, if it works, there are probably 101 uses for it, not just a game scoring device! A lot of the wee...

.Nerd Club: August 2009
http://nerdclubuk.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
The (next) best things in life are free! Posted by Chris Holden. On Monday, August 31, 2009 in damons. Today was quite a departure for everyone at Nerd Towers as we all took a trip out into the countryside. It was a grey, damp day, to match our complexions, so there's no chance of any of us being mistaken for cool-surfer-dude-types. With over 15lb of sloeberries and 10lb of damsons, we're in for a bumper jam-making session these next few days, and need to get hold of about 4 litres of cheap gin! Also, ab...

Posted by Chris Holden. On Friday, July 31, 2009 in botbuilder. Well actually, back to the more generic type of game scoring device. Gets on with making some rather smashing looking servo controller boards. I've been coding yet more for the golf device. To date we've got. Up to 4 player support. Edit player parameters (handicap and golf tees). Something to look out for with these Nokia breakout boards. Is running them at under-voltage. Below is a video showing Nokia development so far. In a break from al...

Another day, another, erm, display. Posted by Chris Holden. On Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in glcd. Seriously. Their customer service is excellent. I ordered a new display. On a whim last night at about 4.30pm. By 10am this morning, DHL were knocking on the door with a parcel. There were no silly delivery charges or anything like that - £9 VAT and the next day, you've got yourself a GLCD display! Except once again my soldering skills have let me down. I'm really struggling getting the other end of the rib...
