Home PageFormed in 1786 from Fayette County, Bourbon County was named for the royal family of France who aided the colonies in the War of Independence. Bourbon was one of nine Virginia counties formed before Kentucky became a state in 1792. Twenty-four new counties and parts of ten other new counties were formed from its original area.
