Bovine Bonanza

Cows are present in almost every country in the world. They serve many different functions within society. I will witness cows as religious symbols, a life-line to nomadic people, best friends and as a bottom-line for business. Cattle farming is constantly evolving, but not necessarily at the same rate in each country. By living on vastly different farms in vastly different countries, I hope to gain a better understanding of the cultural interaction between farmers and their cows.

Bovine Bonanza: Land of Color

http://bovinebonanza.blogspot.com/2008/05/mysterious-color.html

May 31, 2008. Not all of the colors are good though. TRASH! I doubt that he considers the river water from the Himalayas brings life to roughly a billion Indians on the sub-continent. But why should he care? Even though it's trash, it is still colorful. Yet again, earning India a fitting title in my book as the "Land of Color.". View my complete profile. Bovine Bonanza: June 2008

http://bovinebonanza.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

June 13, 2008. More Himalayan Adventures: Sights and Sounds of Nako. I was a little worried at first but there is one thing I learned about Indian government officials in Dharamsala long ago: humor them! Me: "I know one just for you" Rounds of joyous laughter, high-fives, hugs, and bottles of rice wine ensued. Keep in mind, this was all taking place in an army bunker one kilometer from the disputed Indo-Chinese (Tibetan) border where no foreigners are allowed to visit. That's kind of funny! June 02, 2008.

Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery: July 2007

http://codfishery.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery. The wanderings of a Watson fellow in search of sustainability. Saturday, July 14, 2007. Off on a boat! That’s right – tonight is my last night in Akureyri before heading back to Reykjavík to board the Bjarni Saemundsson and set off for two weeks of shrimp surveying. There’s some basic information about the ship here. There’s also a link that is supposed to show locations of research vessels. Which might be updated along the way and give you an idea of where I am. Since sh...

Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery. The wanderings of a Watson fellow in search of sustainability. Friday, June 27, 2008. This called for a car and traveling companions. Lucky for me, Adam and Michelle were crazy enough to drive Adam’s Honda Civic, Jib, all the way to Newfoundland to road trip back with me. Jib has served us loyally, not only for thousands of miles of driving. He dried our tents,. And, of course, Adam and Michelle are pretty awesome too for coming all the way out to road trip with me. Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery. The wanderings of a Watson fellow in search of sustainability. Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Port Union: “To Each His Own”. That did it: I was off. Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery. The wanderings of a Watson fellow in search of sustainability. Monday, July 28, 2008. After spending nearly an entire year explaining why I wanted a chance to travel to study cod fisheries, it came as a surprise that the first time I was asked, “so why are you doing this? 8221; I had a hard time finding an answer. As a girl who grew up hundreds of miles from the coast, a lifelong inland dweller, with little knowledge of fishing or marine biology and a pesky tendency to.

Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery. The wanderings of a Watson fellow in search of sustainability. Monday, December 31, 2007. In case you couldn't guess, folks, that's Danish for happy new year. Here's the family about to partake in an actual Danish tradition of eating a marzipan pig (the traditional gift for the one who finds the whole almond in their rice pudding, also something we sampled, though we all shared the "prize"). And Mom and Jason warming themselves in the evening at Tivoli Gardens. Once I got...

Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery. The wanderings of a Watson fellow in search of sustainability. Wednesday, June 11, 2008. A town called Dildo. Yup, you heard me right. Newfoundland has a lot of towns with odd names. The week I spent on Fogo Island, I stayed in a town called Seldom-Come-By (a fitting name for a small town on an island only reached by ferry). Other names include Come-By-Chance and Happy Adventure. But I think Dildo takes the prize. I was interested in learning about the hatchery largely be...

Inside the Atlantic Cod Fishery. The wanderings of a Watson fellow in search of sustainability. Wednesday, September 26, 2007. Sailboats and granite and trees, oh my! Two weeks later, and here I am writing in Hirtshals, in northern Jutland in Denmark. It’s been an exciting and exhausting trip: four out of five Nordic capitals in one week’s time span, which provided a very brief tour of Scandinavia between my long stays in Iceland and Denmark. For the first time in twelve weeks! Stockholm, mind you, has m...

First of all, I do realize that Thanksgiving was last week, and I apologize for writing so belatedly to wish happy food-eating to those who have not yet given up on reading this blog.
