Clare Waterfall - All things visual: March 2014
http://clarewaterfall.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 3 March 2014. I am back in the studio, OK so I am back in my front room that has my mac, books, paper and paints in. After 4 years of study, designing to spec and meeting briefs and targets, it is rather enjoyable to be practicing and learning at my own pace. This month's task that I have beset myself is to use Illustrator with confidence. I have used it since I was 19 but have never mastered it, simply using the tools I felt comfortable with and fudging around with the pen tool. My background is...

Clare Waterfall - All things visual: January 2014
http://clarewaterfall.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 7 January 2014. This was originally posted on the uni blog. But in that I keep needing to reference it, I'm posting it here too! I'm trying to get my ipad to work in place of a digital portfolio. I have an interview that I wasn't expecting so soon, so it's a bit of a rush job! I had a devil trying to get my videos imported to my itunes. We want to loop all the tutorial videos and have them playing out on an iPad during the presentation. I have done Quicktime Mov with H.264 codec, AAC audio.

Thursday, 9 October 2014. Producing Papercutting Templates using Photoshop. I am a member of a papercutting forum on facebook. And someone recently asked how to produce a template. Now I don’t use a template per se, well in theory I do, as I cut around the lines that I draw and if I wish to neaten something or duplicate some work I scan in the image to make multiple prints and amendments. But I don't use the ones that grey out all areas to be cut away. Select the size canvas you want, there are presets f...

Clare Waterfall - All things visual: November 2013
http://clarewaterfall.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, 30 November 2013. More on colour and landscapes. I have discovered two artists recently, I am usually a late arrival at the queue for jumping on the bandwaggon so excuse me if I am telling you old news. I am particularly excited about these two as they are landscape artists and they use colour in a very exciting way. He has done a series of prints of my beloved Scotland and another place very special to Rob and I, the Lake District. Check out the aviation pieces and his mugs too! Anyway, the on...

Sunday, 20 January 2013. Animation Practice - Rotoscoping in Flash. Very excited to be sharing my first attempt at rotoscoping. We were tasked with producing a 30 second animation that displays our knowledge and understanding of the principles of animation. (Brief is at the bottom of the page). In short, we need to display an animation that shows realistic movement of a character, showcasing a level of technical ability as well as creativity. And cut it down to 30 seconds. I rather mistakenly didn't sele...

Clare Waterfall - All things visual: Colour Charts - papers
http://clarewaterfall.blogspot.com/2014/11/colour-charts-papers.html
Tuesday, 18 November 2014. Colour Charts - papers. Here are the main colours that I have available. I use a variety of Winsor and Newton, Daler Rowney and Clairefontaine. For the coloured backgrounds. There is the smooth Canford Paper and textured pastel and Etival papers. The cuts are usually on a 160 gsm smooth ultra white or ivory card or a 140lbs watercolour paper. I'll use these to demonstrate the colours that you customers may use to select for a papercut.
