I spent a summer in Nicaragua, learning Spanish and volunteering. Here's my story! July 31, 2011. For company, I decided that I’d rather not blog about what was a stressful couple of days. Instead, I bring you more food facts! Last time I talked about food, the two qualities I mentioned happened to be alliterative – Nicaraguan food is fresh. This time, I have two more Fs for you. F is for Fried. F is also for Familiar. In other news, my placement starts for real. July 29, 2011. I can’t believe it &...

Most of you know that I'm a student at the U of A's Campus Saint-Jean. But did you know how wonderful it is? So I wrote a letter (Once again, Mathieu helped me out) and the Campus Saint-Jean. Has agreed to contribute $1000 to my trip! Un gros merci au Doyen, à Denis Fontaine et au Campus Saint-Jean. March 8, 2011. Worth it in the Long Run*. We'll be there at the same time!

http://nicaraguanotebook.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
I spent a summer in Nicaragua, learning Spanish and volunteering. Here's my story! February 28, 2011. Out with a Bang (for now.). Today was my second bake sale, this time with two. Tables: one for goods that were "faits maison" (homemade) and one for goods from real, live boulangerie-pâtisseries. On the homemade side were cookies, muffins and fudge my Mumbly and I made; cinnamon buns from the wonderful Owen. And cookies and meringues from my teammate Ashley. Thanks, Mumbly, Owen. This puts my fund-o-meter.

I spent a summer in Nicaragua, learning Spanish and volunteering. Here's my story! January 17, 2011. Baking A Difference: Bake Sale and Cookie Crumbles. Today was my very first fundraising event: the bake sale. I set myself a modest goal ($50) and an ambitious goal ($75). Clearly, I underestimated the tastiness of the baked goods and the generosity of the students, faculty, staff and visitors at the Campus Saint-Jean. The grand total for the day was $194.44. Is available on the Cookie Crumbles website.

I spent a summer in Nicaragua, learning Spanish and volunteering. Here's my story! September 28, 2011. La Realidad / Gracias y Adiós. I’m not sure how it happened, but September has come and (almost) gone without a single blog post. Things have been crazy! For the first few days, I kept leaving my phone everywhere because I wasn’t used to having it on me; after a while, I was ready to abandon it on purpose because it wouldn’t stop dinging. I’m not sure if I have enough interesting things to say to ...

Nicaragua Notebook: June 2011
http://nicaraguanotebook.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
I spent a summer in Nicaragua, learning Spanish and volunteering. Here's my story! June 23, 2011. I've been talking to people about my trip for months, telling them about what I'll be doing, why I chose Nicaragua, who inspired me, how I'm fundraising, etc. I can talk ad nauseum. About all these fact-based things, but as soon as I run out of information to share, all I can say is, "I'm really excited! Really excited about my trip - How could I not be? I leave NEXT FRIDAY! That being said, I want. It's pro...

I spent a summer in Nicaragua, learning Spanish and volunteering. Here's my story! May 31, 2011. Today, I picked up a teeny tiny box of Salmonella typhi Ty21a. Capsules that I get to start taking tomorrow. It has roughly a zillion special instructions that are pretty easy to deal with, but I'm still finding the idea of following all these rules in order to keep my bacteria alive. Si vous cherchez de l'information sur la vente de café, vous la trouverez. May 26, 2011. The order from Equator. Once I hit 30...

Nicaragua Notebook: December 2010
http://nicaraguanotebook.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
I spent a summer in Nicaragua, learning Spanish and volunteering. Here's my story! December 8, 2010. I bought my plane tickets and travel insurance today! It's a touch early to book - there are still 204 days until my program starts - but as you may know, I'm pretty big on planning and international travel is certainly no exception! Because they have a partnership with BaseCamp Volunteer Abroad. I suppose it's actually real now - or at least non-refundable! Things are just getting started on the fundrais...
