ungtss: February 2010
http://ungtss.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Pursuing Truth through dialectic. Thursday, February 4, 2010. Old age and death. I used to think of old age and death as cruel and foreign - as unjust and undeserved punishments imposed upon us. As I've gotten older, that's changed. I'm starting to see them as intentional - and as merciful. And what would eternal life be after all? Would I really want to do that? I tend to think the Designer(s) gave us death because eternal life would be cruel punishment on a planet of so much work and pain; and they gav...

Pursuing Truth through dialectic. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Http:/ www.nytimes.com/2009/05/26/opinion/26douthat.html? Interesting article on female unhappiness . surveys show fewer women report being happier than they did 50 years ago, prior to the sexual revolution. Proposed causes from the article include: "Women are not wired for the working world," "Women are required to work more and still do the household stuff," "the continued struggle against the glass ceiling," etc. But I favor another hypothesis:.

The Jeffers: Go Tigers. Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Yes I know, its been forever since I've blogged. In one weekend, Brad graduated from the Academy, we moved two households- my mom to Oregon and us to the Bay Area. We found out we are having a GIRL. The Jeffers: Go Tigers. Friday, February 11, 2011. Shelby's Blessing, and other stuff. Shelby was blessed this past Sunday, February 6th. First, let me say the day was absolutely beautiful, 70 degrees in February. I'll take it! Shelby's dress was absolutely beautiful. (Thank you so much mom, she looked angelic in it! On Saturday night I decided she needed a bright red flower to wear, and impressed myself with the beauty I came up with- not hard to make at all, plus it was SUPER inexpensive. The kids are ...

The Jeffers: Go Tigers. Friday, May 28, 2010. Yup, we have a blog. So, on May 15th, Brinley got baptized. I have to say, its a completely sacred experience to watch your own child get baptized. I was so proud of her for her decision. She was so excited to be baptized. It amazes me at how mature she was about this decision. Brinley looks beautiful. I cant believe how old she is. May 28, 2010 at 5:48 PM. She is beautiful. and so grown up. when did that happen? June 4, 2010 at 10:00 PM. Brad and I have been...

Pursuing Truth through dialectic. Sunday, December 27, 2009. The concept of inflation has always bothered me, because none of the theories I learned about it in school made any sense. Then, on the way back from Paris, I came up with a theory of inflation that makes sense, to me at least. The result is that demand increases, but supply stays the same. That, according to the laws of supply and demand, will raise prices for everybody. Inflation. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Science and Religion News. View my...

ungtss: guilt and faith
http://ungtss.blogspot.com/2010/07/guilt-and-faith.html
Pursuing Truth through dialectic. Wednesday, July 7, 2010. I got to thinking about guilt and faith today. Guilt I'll define as the cognitive dissonance we feel when we perceive a gap between what we "are" and what we "should be.". Faith I'll define as the rush of joy we feel when we perceive an opportunity to rise from what we "are" to what we "could be.". Now where do these two feelings come from? Why do they tell us this? Is it because we actually SHOULD BE something? The "Could" of faith, however, doe...

Pursuing Truth through dialectic. Sunday, June 21, 2009. Dennett on Religious Education. Dennett argues that public schools should teach "facts" about all religions. He seems to think this would be the easiest thing in the world. "No problem! Just teach the facts.". But there are two problems with his plan that he doesn't address:. 1) The facts are disputed. Who wrote the Bible / Quran / Vedas? Did the events reported occur? Did Jesus die and rise. Like the Christians say, die and not rise. Not from Fran...
