Hey. Stroke This.: June 2012
http://heystrokethis.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Thursday, June 7, 2012. Mission: The Entire Ass. I’ve had a hellish past few weeks. I did everything I could think of to prepare for surgery on my good hand, but nothing really prepares you for what that is like. I was online far more than I anticipated (shout out to my pharmacist! This is an eventful week. It started with the removal of the stitches in my left hand. Yay! Today, June 7. Is my one year anniversary. It’s been a whole year si...I’...

A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Thursday, March 29, 2012. I couldn’t do it. I would just curl up and cry and want to die. You’ve got to do it yourself. I’m learning to cook because I need to eat healthy and it’s on me to make that happen. I’m learning to walk because I need to be able to get my own damn tampons off the shelf at Target. (OK maybe TMI, but have you tried sending your husband to do this? The definition of course started with “a female dog” – duh! The doctor said I wo...

A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Saturday, May 12, 2012. It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve had plenty to say. Hell, I always have plenty to say. The truth is I’ve been avoiding my own blog. How twisted and sad is that? I’ll spare you the long “How Gellie’s Hands Came To Be Royally Fucked” story, and tell you this: I have to have surgery on my left hand. I am “right-side affected” as a result of my stroke. That means my right. Side This means that recovering from surgery wi...

Hey. Stroke This.: January 2013
http://heystrokethis.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Thursday, January 24, 2013. One in five stroke survivors will have another stroke within five years of their first. JustLike.Last time. FUCK. Then my mental checklist:. Get to a chair. OH MY FUCKING AHHHHHH! Monitor I keep upstairs. It was 173. Clearly my blood sugar was not the problem. He held my face and said, “Keep calm. Sit down. I’m getting the phone and calling 9-1-1.”. I said, “AHHHH! I’m not very good with directions. I kiss it, OK? EMTs ca...

A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Thursday, April 23, 2015. My Vans Down by the River. It is with a heavy heart that I pronounce my beloved Yo Gabba Gabba Slip-On Vans officially…*sniffle*…DEAD. They have suffered the woes of wear and finally cannot go on. The carnage. My cat, Selina looks away, blinking away his tears. I bought these shoes 4 years ago, just 3 weeks before my stroke. We had been out shopping for a new pair of shoes for my son when I noticed these on sale. I didnR...

A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Saturday, July 28, 2012. Where does one go on vacation when they’re disabled? Where does one take their bedazzled cane and pimp ass limp? To Vegas, bitches! This small gesture was a big lesson for me, a lesson that I’m still trying to master. Lesson #1: Let people know you’re disabled. It’s a bittersweet moment when you realize that the whole world doesn’t have your. You don’t always have to say “Hey fucktard! I can’t walk that far! Also, I didnR...

Hey. Stroke This.: February 2012
http://heystrokethis.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Tuesday, February 21, 2012. I had posted a list back in October of things I will probably never do because of my stroke. When I posted my Can’t Do. List, a friend of mine said she couldn’t wait to see the list of new things I could. Do because of my disability. It struck me: have I – can I – acquire a whole new realm of awesomeness? But I wasn’t quite feeling it. My list just wasn’t that awesome. Until now! The other big change, that I always knew h...

A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Friday, March 13, 2015. There is one thing most grown-ups can all agree to join hands and hate together: the motherfucking laundry. No, this isn’t another mommy blog post about hating on laundry. You guys get it. And it never ends. But I have a confession to make: I’m having a new love affair with laundry. I'm not a traitor. Laundry hook-ups were at the top of our MUST HAVE. List while looking for a new place to live. I did try once. Well, it is a m...

Hey. Stroke This.: October 2014
http://heystrokethis.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
A 30-something's journey through stroke rehabilitation. Tuesday, October 14, 2014. That Time You Died. It’s been over 3 years since my stroke. My son was just shy of his 2. Birthday when it happened. It was difficult at the time, for all of us. I had to live in a rehabilitation facility for a couple of weeks, in addition to the 8 days I was in ICU. That’s a long time to not be with your toddler. My husband and my mom took turns bringing him for visits, but it wasn’t every day. Fast-forward a few years.
