BrammerBushcraft: Firestarting Kit
http://brammerbushcraft.blogspot.com/2016/07/firestarting-kit.html
Robert Brammer's bushcraft journal. My random thoughts, experiences, and what I've learned. I'm not an expert, I'm an enthusiast. Sunday, July 10, 2016. There are only two kinds of disposable lighters the cheap ones that don't work and the reliable Bic. Spend the extra money and get a real bic. I prefer blaze orange because if I drop it I can easily find it. The average number of lights from a bic is 3000. That's a lot of fires. Steel tin full of Vaseline cotton balls-. Any metal tin will do as long as i...

http://brammerbushcraft.blogspot.com/2016/02/my-first-cold-weather-bushcraft-trip.html
Robert Brammer's bushcraft journal. My random thoughts, experiences, and what I've learned. I'm not an expert, I'm an enthusiast. Tuesday, February 23, 2016. My first cold weather bushcraft trip. My body kind of formed a crevice under the tent as I sank into the snow. My sleeping bag is a cheap menards summer bag. I left my hand warmers up at the truck. I worked outdoors for years so I am well aware of layering. I was thankful to have layers because I was too hot while I was gathering wood then too c...

Robert Brammer's bushcraft journal. My random thoughts, experiences, and what I've learned. I'm not an expert, I'm an enthusiast. Monday, April 4, 2016. Build an emergency tarp shelter. The few things needed for this project. Make a survival tarp. I wanted to come up with a tarp that was lightweight, waterproof, strong, easy to make, and would be able to reflect heat. This is what I came up with. Virtually anything that goes wrong can easily be fixed on the fly with duct tape. As I remember t...Step 3...

http://brammerbushcraft.blogspot.com/2016/02/heading-back-out.html
Robert Brammer's bushcraft journal. My random thoughts, experiences, and what I've learned. I'm not an expert, I'm an enthusiast. Thursday, February 25, 2016. I'm bringing a few more trail meals and more coffee. I modded my cookware so there is no longer any plastic handle to melt and I also added a handle to hang it from a tripod. I'm bringing a holster for my revolver. Last outing I started roughing out a kuksa from a beautiful piece of cedar heartwood. I plan to work on burning the bowl out while ...

Robert Brammer's bushcraft journal. My random thoughts, experiences, and what I've learned. I'm not an expert, I'm an enthusiast. Sunday, February 28, 2016. Got back from another overnighter. What did I learn. An elevated sleep platform is very comfortable but I need to make it about a foot wider so I don't roll off. The Bahco Laplander does a great job but I need to upgrade my big bow saw to a bahco as well. My little camp hatchet does a good job getting through logs up to around 6". Start bringing a bi...

Midwest Outdoors: Bug out vehicle: geo tracker
http://livetoseetomorrow.blogspot.com/2013/09/bug-out-vehicle-geo-tracker.html
Bug out vehicle: geo tracker. I got another bug out vehicle this past week from my father in law. The old saying never look a gift horse in the mouth only applies till you get home. When I picked this little 4x4 up it was running like complete shit. I was having trouble going 45 on the freeway and it died every time I stopped. I've spent the last week fixing what was wrong and now she runs like a dream. New spark platinum plugs be sure they are the plugs for the 8v and gapped to .028. Now start the littl...

Midwest Outdoors: My new EDC flashlight : Coast HP7 review
http://livetoseetomorrow.blogspot.com/2015/05/my-new-edc-flashlight-coast-hp7-review.html
My new EDC flashlight : Coast HP7 review. I've had good experiences in the past with Coast lights so this year I picked up a Coast HP7 for my EDC. The HP7 is the replacement for my Maglite XL50. The XL50 held up pretty well and was extremely bright but it had a thin wall case and I finally dented it in so badly that I can't get the battery holder out. Hopefully my new HP7 won't suffer the same fate. Heavy duty, thick wall aluminum body and bezel. There is no flat lens to get scratched. Ordering numbers: ...

Midwest Outdoors: An evac plan for your dog
http://livetoseetomorrow.blogspot.com/2015/06/an-evac-plan-for-your-dog.html
An evac plan for your dog. I have two dogs that are just as much a part of the family as my wife and kid are. They sleep in bed. With us and lay on the couch. In return they protect the house while we're away and alert us when they hear something go bump in the night. I don't think you should have a dog if you lack that mindset. A dog will do anything for you and lives to make you happy so please remember to include them in the family evac plan. A fire, a tornado, an earthquake? Discuss a plan with a tru...

Midwest Outdoors: How to choose an Axe
http://livetoseetomorrow.blogspot.com/2015/06/how-to-choose-axe.html
How to choose an Axe. 35,500 years ago an ingenious primitive man fastened a wedge to a stick and made an axe, one of the first simple machines. This simple machine became one of the most useful tools and meanest weapons known. Fast forward to modern day and we are still using the same idea just different materials. In order to pick a good quality axe that is the right fit for you there are two parts you need to be able to recognize; the head and the handle. Questions to ask yourself before you decide.
