Breaking BRCA: November 2013
http://brcaprevivor.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 30, 2013. 23andNotMe: A critical evaluation of the limitations of 23andMe and traditional genetic testing. My older sister Heather, who is also a BRCA2 mutation carrier, recently ordered the 23andMe test that’s been in the news recently. As you probably heard, the FDA is trying to shut the company down for making inaccurate claims about the test’s ability to assess genotypic health risks. In a letter to the CEO of 23andMe, the FDA writes, “. Ultimately I've come to a few conclusions:.
Breaking BRCA: May 2013

Thursday, May 16, 2013. Media Frenzy and Misconceptions. The response to the interviews has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive. Most people are surprised because they didn't know what I'd been going through this year. But I've gotten some comments that are less than positive that I'd like to address here. I've also had some very good and important questions asked that I thought I'd answer here. 1) "What's the big deal, she had an excuse to get a boob job.". 1) "So. what did they DO? The outside ...

Wednesday, November 28, 2012. What will they look like? So I've gradually been explaining my upcoming surgery to more people in my life. Fortunately, everyone has been very understanding and supportive if not EXCITED for me. Among the funniest reactions have been: 'DUDE, free boob job! My wonderful male friends) and 'UGH I want new boobs too! The moral of this post is that, in my opinion, these women look great! Why be a victim of your genetics if you don't have to be? By the end of this albeit long proc...
Breaking BRCA: February 2013

Wednesday, February 20, 2013. It's been a little while since I wrote but much has happened! And it's nothing but good news ;). I had a nerve-wracking conversation with Pat, the nurse, who explained to me that Dr. Song would be out of the office for most of March and was completely booked up for April. I was about to go into panic mode; I definitely did not want to be stuck with basketboobs until May. Cue wave of pure excitement and relief*. Haha All in all, SUCH GOOD NEWS! Following my appointment with D...

My BRCA+ Journey | BRCA+ and Choosing LIFE!
BRCA and Choosing LIFE! February 26, 2012 in updates. Today is the two year anniversary of my mastectomies and start of my reconstruction. It’s been quite a journey and while I had many complications and it took awhile to be completely done, it’s only a distant memory now. While going through that spring with constant pain and multiple surgeries it seemed too much to handle but looking back, it’s now just a blur. So what is it like now? I have little pec strength. My chest muscles contract and feel tight.

Aller au contenu principal. 26, BRCA1 positive, totally ignored. For my incredible parents and my incredible Matthew. So what’s the negative point? Where was the voice of the under 30s? So why are we so important, us neglected under 30s? We haven’t even had the surgery yet. What do we know? Wrong We’re suffering. And the worst part is, we’re doing it in silence. Mom react when she passed on her BRCA mutation to you? How did you make her understand it wasn’t her fault? I’m living daily with the fact...
