The Breakfast Bowl: March 2015
http://breakfastbowl.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Kellogg looking to Origins. In the last few years much attention has been given to the decline in breakfast cereal sales, a point highlighted on this blog. From time to time (but not nearly in keeping with the increasing hype this story is getting across the general media). The big companies are especially feeling the pressure, with much of the recent attention given to Kellogg. And their almost 5% drop in breakfast food sales. Aren't there tons of them in the market? Even feat...
The Breakfast Bowl: Special K is thinning
http://breakfastbowl.blogspot.com/2014/08/special-k-is-thinning.html
Saturday, August 30, 2014. Special K is thinning. With summer winding down I need to catch up on a few recent stories. One of the most notable comes out of Kellogg's latest financial update. Normally I do not comment on most of these earnings calls and corporate news items, but this one is of particular interest. Not only are cereal sales down (no real news here), but their current flagship line. Special K, has been losing appeal as a weight management brand. According to an AP interview. Kellogg CEO Joh...
The Breakfast Bowl: What Consumers Want: Favorites from the Past
http://breakfastbowl.blogspot.com/2014/12/what-consumers-want-favorites-from-past.html
Wednesday, December 10, 2014. What Consumers Want: Favorites from the Past. Just a couple of weeks ago. I wrote on how General Mills may have misread consumers in their recent push to use non-GMO ingredients. It seems like the company is starting to get it, now going after what consumers really want. Evidence of this comes just a few days ago when they announced. The return of a cereal they discontinued eight years ago, French Toast Crunch. A point that General Mills is quick to highlight. Who knows ...
The Breakfast Bowl: When all else fails change the box
http://breakfastbowl.blogspot.com/2014/03/when-all-else-fails-change-box.html
Tuesday, March 04, 2014. When all else fails change the box. On this blog over the years concerns the struggles of General Mills' Wheaties. And the various attempts to revitalize this brand. So far nothing has really worked. With Wheaties' sports emphasis it's no surprise that they just unveiled two new boxes featuring two Sochi gold medalists. But now with these star athletes the fresh look is fully expressed and promoted. But, will this new look result in more sales and a rejuvenated brand? The same da...
The Breakfast Bowl: Has cereal gone soggy?
http://breakfastbowl.blogspot.com/2013/08/has-cereal-gone-soggy.html
Friday, August 30, 2013. Has cereal gone soggy? Earlier this month a story in Bloomberg Businessweek. Caused a stir when it pointed out that "On-the-Go Americans Are Ditching Their Cereal Bowls". Whatever the reason, there are some major changes happening around us in cereal. Even the fact that manufacturers are reformulating recipes. And changing marketing approaches. What do you think? Is cereal still an important part of your daily routine and life? What would you like to see? August 31, 2013 5:13 AM.

Cerealist: Undeclared Milk Proteins, a.k.a. Best Holidays Ever
http://cerealist.blogspot.com/2010/12/undeclared-milk-proteins-aka-best.html
Saturday, December 25, 2010. Undeclared Milk Proteins, a.k.a. Best Holidays Ever. My parents don’t know what Lucky Charms are. They’ve never eaten Frosted Flakes or (god forbid) genetically modificiated (sic – this is what my mom calls them) Corn Pops. What constitutes breakfast there is usually a granola-like substance and a banana. Maybe eggs and toast if you’d like to make it yourself. But you’d better bet your bottom dollar the eggs are organic and. So when I first moved out on my. The holidays ended...
Cerealist: May 2011

Saturday, May 21, 2011. More Childhood in a Box. Here's a few never-been-realized cereals harkening back to classic/cult 80's movies. While of a certain visual aesthetic that is neat but would never hit the shelves, these are quite thoughtful in their attention to detail and little eye winks to the movies. Favorite element: The Twinkies from Spanglers explanation of the psychokinetic energy in New York. Favorite element: The stylized Mogwai (ie. Gizmo) made to look like the Quaker Oats guy. Sure, maybe h...
Cerealist: Top 10 Cereal Mascots
http://cerealist.blogspot.com/2011/05/top-10-cereal-mascots.html
Monday, May 16, 2011. Top 10 Cereal Mascots. Because humans have a need to rank and order the world, a list of the Top 10 Cereal Mascots. Has been assembled. I don't know what authority this person has to do such, but there it is. The list itself is mostly safe. It doesn't attempt to be international by including weirdos like Melvin of Choco Krispies fame (from Mexico) or some weird Japanese shit that has a cute wasabi bear or something. No, the omission I'm talking about is Cornelius Rooster. More Child...

Saturday, March 26, 2011. Living Long and Prospering. Today is the 80th birthday of Leonard Nimoy. To honor that, we are drudging up the box of Sugar Smacks that featured his illustrious character, Mr. Spock. This was released in the late 60's inline with the short-lived original Star Trek series. Alright, I've calmed down and gotten over not having any 'space energy' and will just rely on the humble and terrestrial caffeine. But I don't understand why Kellogg's didn't bring back 'space energy' for t...

Cerealist: April 2011
http://cerealist.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 19, 2011. The problem here is that they've appropriated one of the most American of institutions, the breakfast cereal (and corresponding box), and through such a medium, our former overlords are trying to make relevant one of the most irrelevant institutions in the world. For shame. Stick to the porcelain plates, spoons and knockoff jewelry (have you seen that ring? I won't stand for it. My love of cereal must have boundaries. Only 1,000 of each box has been made and OMG! Mondelez Interna...

Monday, February 28, 2011. Mini Wheats Identity Crisis. How did this happen? How did the face of Frosted Mini Wheats turn become two, entirely different mascots? Like the great 20th century marriage, the two sides aren't talking here. The two sides being the US and Canada of course. But we are talking about an international packaged goods brand and marketing company here, so what went wrong. Alright, let's dissect these little pillows of wheat with variable frosting. In this corner, 'The American'. Or ma...

Part of a Complete Breakfast: Fruity Pebbles
http://completebreakfast.blogspot.com/2007/05/fruity-pebbles.html
Monday, May 21, 2007. A good source of fiber indeed. You know how matza is essentially bread without yeast? Well, Fruity Pebbles tastes like the matza of the cereal world. Post was probably trying to make their own Rice Crispies and forgot to put the yeast in, or whatever ingredient they put in rice cereal to make it not taste like crap. I imagine the board meeting down at Post that day went something like this:. Ok boss, but who would in their right mind would eat this stuff? Hmm Cave men.".

Part of a Complete Breakfast: March 2008
http://completebreakfast.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 3, 2008. When I was at the cereal store last week Diana and I saw these. I told myself I wouldn't buy any more cereal since between Irish and I we have 20 boxes on top of the fridge right now (pics/video soon) but I really couldn't pass this up. Each box is about 1.5 pounds (24 and 24.5 oz) and they were 3 dollars each. Even the clerk standing nearby said you can't beat that. Over 3 pounds of sugar and cereal for 6 dollars. It's kind of ridiculous. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

the beauty of a breakfast boost - Blog
The beauty of a breakfast boost. So much to do, so little time: The importance of breakfast, even if it is on-the-go. Demanding work and family schedules require endurance, focus, energy, and concentration. Without a nutrient packed breakfast, we may barely even make it to 3pm, let alone have the energy and motivation to head to the gym after work. A hearty breakfast is not only a delicious way to start the day, but it also is the best way to fuel up for the long day ahead. Increased energy for the day.

The Breakfast Bowl
Sunday, February 25, 2018. Copy if you're Lucky. There are more exciting things to report on here than every time a cereal manufacturer changes a color, shape or marshmallow. That happens all the time, and for the most part is just gimmickry. So, last week's official announcemen. T that Lucky Charms would be introducing a permanent, new marshmallow in the shape of a unicorn immediately generated an eye roll from me. This followed another announcement. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flat...
