The Sacramento River--A Blog: More Rock Art; Or, the Only Known Sighting of the Rock-Chested Gravel Dodo

Sites and Sights along the Sacramento River, and Throughout the Sacramento Valley. Sunday, February 1, 2015. More Rock Art; Or, the Only Known Sighting of the Rock-Chested Gravel Dodo. Elsewhere in this blog is a post ( HERE. About rock art at the Watt Avenue Bridge over the American River in Sacramento. I ended that post by whining. About pushing my rickety knees across the roughness of the gravel bar where the rock artist works. There was a hint that I might not come back. Https:/ americanriverrambling...

The Sacramento River--A Blog: Thompson Seedless Grape
https://sactoriver.blogspot.com/2015/01/thompson-seedless-grape.html
Sites and Sights along the Sacramento River, and Throughout the Sacramento Valley. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Credit goes to an Englishman for an idea that kept Americans from spitting out grape seeds, choking on said seeds, or having trouble digesting them. That idea is summarized on a historical marker on State Route 20, ten miles west of Yuba City, California. William C. Paxson. January 27, 2015 at 5:36 PM. Thats cool. The Sacramento River--A Blog: About This Blog
https://sactoriver.blogspot.com/p/about.html
Sites and Sights along the Sacramento River, and Throughout the Sacramento Valley. The Sacramento River is 400 miles long- maybe less, maybe more, depending on which authority you consult- and it drains 27,000 square miles of northern California plus a small chunk of southern Oregon. In short, the Sacramento is one of the most accessible big rivers anywhere. Sounds like a good idea to me. Drive around a little bit, get out of the car and amble here and there, take a snapshot or two or more, ask a few...

The Sacramento River--A Blog: Rock Art at Watt Avenue, American River
https://sactoriver.blogspot.com/2014/12/rock-art-at-watt-avenue-american-river.html
Sites and Sights along the Sacramento River, and Throughout the Sacramento Valley. Sunday, December 28, 2014. Rock Art at Watt Avenue, American River. Not far from where I live in Sacramento, Watt Avenue crosses the American River at a busy place. At river level are fishing access, boat launch, raft takeout, and a bike trail, to name the most obvious offerings. But at river level it's possible to walk out on the bar and take a look. William C. The Sacramento River--A Blog: Why Did the Egret Cross the Road?
https://sactoriver.blogspot.com/2015/01/why-did-egret-cross-road.html
Sites and Sights along the Sacramento River, and Throughout the Sacramento Valley. Friday, January 9, 2015. Why Did the Egret Cross the Road? I wrote this post for another blog, now defunct. It is re-published here because it relates, in ways no matter how distant, to the Sacramento Valley.). On a drive into a wildlife refuge, I was stopped by an egret doing road patrol. While waiting for the bird to move on, I pondered this time-honored question: Why did the egret cross the road? Rush Limbaugh: If the e...

Northern California Trout: December 2014

Tuesday, December 30, 2014. As The Year Goes Out With The Wind. Well, that’s a wrap. I know it’s only Tuesday the 30. But I’m done for the year. I had planned one more trip for 2014, but a head full of snot and winds sustained at 20 to 30 have put the kibosh on any fishing before, probably Friday. Since I can’t go fishing and it’s too cold to even go outdoors, I thought I’d do a quick recap of the year. As fishing goes, it was pretty shitty until April 7. It was one of eleven fish caught that day. In Jul...

Northern California Trout: July 2014
http://www.northerncaliforniatrout.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. I had to go over to Placerville this morning and to do so I took Highway 49 past the Sand Fire. What I did see on the way across was a bunch of Cal Fire trucks heading away from the fire area. When I say a bunch, I'm thinking somewhere in the area of 30 to 40 or maybe more. Most of them looked like this one. The fire is 90% contained so it pretty much a mop up situation and with the Monsoonal Moisture back, should be 100% in a day or so. So that's it, we're all good for now.
