my (elastic) gap year: August 2006
http://mygapyearat50.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
My (elastic) gap year. Tuesday, August 29, 2006. I booked an eye test today, mainly on the strength of getting a voucher offer of 20% off a pair of specs. I'm short sighted and use glasses to drive and watch TV, other than that I quite like my hazy world as I can't see people's dandruff etc and I have the camera adjusted to suit my right eye. It's two years since I had a test done and I've been putting it off because the last time I went it turned into a huge hullabaloo (splg? But they didn't need to as ...

My (elastic) gap year. Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Blech, had a horrible migraine yesterday. The kind that insinuates itself into all the nerves of your teeth. Better now, although I still feel a little "spacey". I think these headaches are being caused by the oestrogen inhibitor that I take to help prevent a recurrence of the breast cancer. Got my second critique on the piece I've been writing, all really helpful, constructive comments. Anyway bathroom cleaning beckons . Posted by apprentice at 11:44 am.

My (elastic) gap year. Sunday, December 31, 2006. Eddi says it better/Auld Lang Syne. Posted by apprentice at 4:47 pm. As I Scot New Year means a lot to me, even though I know it's no more than an arbitrary line in the sand, and not a portal to the future. The worst thing about a cancer diagnosis is that it derails your sense of forward motion. So tonight I take another step forward. It's no more than anyone else does, it's just that it becomes a little more difficult when the blinkers are removed! N is ...

My (elastic) gap year. Monday, July 31, 2006. Just read it back and it seems rather harsh, but it was hot and I was knackered, so apologies for the rant. My MIL called and left a message on the answering machine to say she'd found her purse. It wasn't our answering machine, not sure whose it was, but anyway she tried. My husband called her yesterday and it was in one of the many handbags. Better get going. Washing is getting soaked, so nice to write that! Posted by apprentice at 12:10 pm. Sunday, July 23...

My (elastic) gap year. Thursday, June 29, 2006. Posted by apprentice at 10:49 am. Wednesday, June 28, 2006. Needless to say 6 student nurses got to watch, while the senior nurse told them it was one of her favourite procedures! Posted by apprentice at 4:03 pm. Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Blackbirds have flown the nest. I also called the council on their extortionate "premium line" and arranged for them to pick up the old frame and some other bits of rubbish out of the shed. She's hoping to come over here in ...

My (elastic) gap year. Sunday, April 30, 2006. Took this at G8 march last summer. The musician's T shirt said it all. And yet nothing has changed, the rape and killing goes on. Posted by apprentice at 9:31 am. Wednesday, April 26, 2006. Yesterday I was speaking before a committee of Edinburgh City Council on behalf of a charity I do some work with. We'd applied for funding but were refused a grant, despite the fact that the council has used our services for a number of years. Today's picture is based on ...

My (elastic) gap year. Friday, March 31, 2006. People were kind and polite, although it felt strange to hear a young guide refer to the "Communist Era" as though it was remote history. My favourite ironic fact - the Museum of Communism is located up the stairs from McDonalds! There must be a picture book in McDonalds around the world. May be people could send their snaps to me? I also liked the potato soup served in a loaf of bread! Posted by apprentice at 10:18 am. Sunday, March 19, 2006. No time to post.
my (elastic) gap year: November 2006
http://mygapyearat50.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
My (elastic) gap year. Thursday, November 30, 2006. If it isn't too much of an irony for St Andrew's Day I'll post Dick Gaughan singing Tom Paine's Bones. The man is one of Scotland's best treasures. Posted by apprentice at 1:42 pm. I'm starting to feel like jonnyb, workmen said they'd start at the end of this week or next, but more probably this week. Not a sign of them, mind you there's a howling gale today, so I'm quite glad that the windows aren't being removed. Also promised the head gardener at Cra...

My (elastic) gap year. Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Seeing those big lanky lads without their Mum really tore me up, but A achieved so much in her life that it was hard to be sad for long. She's really inspired me to go on getting on with my life. Posted by apprentice at 2:28 pm. Sunday, May 28, 2006. I need to be careful as sometimes my enthusiasm runs at a higher level than my energy, but I like trying new things and having new goals to aim for. Posted by apprentice at 1:17 pm. Friday, May 26, 2006. Trick ...

My (elastic) gap year. Monday, October 30, 2006. No butts it has to be butter. Happy Halloween. Banana will like this. Posted by apprentice at 11:35 pm. I know I said I wasn't worried about global warming, but I was joking, it does really bother me. It's been obvious for some time that global warming will be catastrophic for many countries and many truly wonderful habitats around the world, English bluebell woods, the sheet ice that polar bears depend on, the Maldives, etc, etc. Read the Stern report here.
