We are a breast cancer support group based at Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands. If you live in the area and are affected by breast cancer, we can offer friendship and support. We helped fundraise during Newcastle-under-Lyme's 'Paint the Town Pink Week' and contributed to the 10,000 raised nationally for Breast Cancer Campaign. Our group has been running since 1995. We were formed when the Midland branch of Soroptimist International. WHY THE OPTIMISTS GROUP IS SO VALUABLE TO ME. What our members say. The GP wasn’t concerned but sent me for screening. I had a mammogram, MRI scan and biopsy. Unfortunately I was told that it was breast cancer and I had a mastectomy a few weeks later. This was followed by a lymph node clearance operation. Post-op treatment included chemotherapy, radiotherapy and taking hormone tablets for 5 years. In November 1990 ...

We also held a raffle, with prizes donated by our members, which raised 50 for the Stop Breast Cancer Now campaign. Happy Anniversary to the Optimists! INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. Cancer can be scary, and an experience which others can find hard to deal with or understand if they have not experienced themselves, which is why we are here. We started the group in 1996 as a way to let out our feelings and share our cancer experience in a confidential yet fun and easygoing way- and have been meeting once a month ever since! Sometimes we can just be there to sit and listen, we don't even need to talk. Meetings take place on the third Monday of every month 6pm-8pm.
