Our Personal Tour de France. 8220;What is a gîte? Based on how much comfort and convenience they provide. There are several reputable sites where you can search for a gîte — two of the more popular are Gîtes de France. We stayed in three very different gîtes during our vacation as well as an apartment in Paris which for all intents and purposes provides basically the same experience. A couple of other excellent resources I used are VRBO. And New York Habitat. Newer Entry →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Our Personal Tour de France. As a young boy growing up in an impoverished neighborhood in a small city in Southern California, I recall walking by beautiful townhouses in the wealthier part of town and thinking to myself what the rich people I saw living within must be like. I was sure I would never be able to live that way and had a difficult time even conceiving of the idea. Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! Newer Entry →. 2 thoughts on “ Fortunate. July 31, 2015 at 7:20 AM. Our Personal Tour de France. Archive for the category “Uncategorized”. Back in the Saddle Again. It’s time to get back in the saddle again and return to work. After all I have been through this summer, I’m hoping I’ll be up to it. As I head out tomorrow to meet up with the rest of the agents on my team, I’m looking forward to embarking on my last mission ever. Wish me luck! My mom, Laury. Our son, Lorenzo. Then there’s the wonderful Pérez crew — all nine siblings plus their spouses, nieces an...Kim, Surr...

Our Personal Tour de France. A Dose of Reality. You may remember that last year in a previous post. One of our goals this summer, was to experience living rather than vacationing in France. Though my illness has definitely been unpleasant, the flip side is that it has forced us to spend at least a week just living a normal daily life without spectacular events to distract us from reality. A Night to Remember. Is this a fair price? Do I love it? I never buy anything simply because it’s on sale. This year,...

Our Personal Tour de France. The Gîte Life Continued…. Enjoying the Gîte Life. If you haven’t read the first post, The Gîte Life. From our trip in 2012, you might want to do that before continuing to read this post as this article continues from there. Thirdly, gîtes are self-catering, meaning that you will be completely on your own just like you are in your own home. No one will come in daily to clean up after you, change your sheets or towels, wash your dishes or make up your bed. Just be down at the l...

Our Personal Tour de France. The French Meal Schedule: A petit déjeuner — breakfast and truly “petit” (small) — our favorite: plain yogurt topped with fresh seasonal fruit and cornflakes; otherwise, it’s a pastry and coffee or tea — eaten at about 10AM (of course, if you work it’s a bit earlier but NOT at 6:30 AM! The Beauty of the Countryside: As we have said many times before, France is such a beautifully diverse country. The geography is incredible — so many different kinds of trees, mountai...Despite...

Our Personal Tour de France. La Vallée du Dropt. Relaxing Poolside at our Gîte near Le Puy. Compared to our last accommodations and experience, it felt like paradise. As in a previous gîte where we stayed, the first thing we did……jump in the pool! He gave us a slice of one to taste and it was excellent — rich in flavor with a meaty texture. He told us that while many larger farms grow produce to export, he grows everything he sells and sells it at a different farmer’s market every day. Since we needed to...
