The Breckland Birder

Paul Newport's personal blog of birding in Breckland,Norfolk. Nuthatch at Thompson, Norfolk. A common woodland species. Photo by Paul Newport. Friday, 14 August 2015. North Pickenham (Houghton) Norfolk. This morning started with a definite autumnal feel to it with low cloud and mist, and poor visibility, although it was quite humid. My walk took in lanes and tracks lined with a wealth of fruit-bearing hedgerows, and although not ripened fully, some Elder fruits appeared black and ready to eat. It is here...

Malc's Astro Page: perigee-syzygy

http://malcsastro.blogspot.com/2014/08/perigee-syzygy.html

Astrophotography by Malcolm Dent. Monday, 11 August 2014. I am trying to refain from using the term "Supermoon", as it seems to inspire some strange questions from those whom think my interest in Selenology is being a member of the Celine Dion fan club. No it won't start earthquakes. No it wont cause a Tsunami. No the world will not end. My Image was taken last night between 21.39 and 21.42 at a mean distance of 222,483 miles. The opinions expressed about Astrology in this post are entirely my own. Comet...

Malc's Astro Page: A trio in Leo.

http://malcsastro.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-trio-in-leo.html

Astrophotography by Malcolm Dent. Wednesday, 25 February 2015. A trio in Leo. The fainter galaxies were somewhat more of a challenge. The image has been plate solved and I needed this to locate and verify the position of the objects that were barely visible even at 400 x zoom in Photoshop. But I did find that an inverse of the frame gives greater contrast as some of the faintest smudges are just a couple of shades brighter than the background. Sky at Night TV Programme. Astrophotography by Malcolm Dent. Saturday, 25 April 2015. New Life in an old focuser. So 20 minutes later I have a reasonably smooth movement going, readjusted the tension to take the weight of the field flattener and camera. On it went and bingo it worked in both directions. I don't think I want to remove the camera ever again. A rebalance of the scopes was required to bring back the Starlight camera back into operation. An inverted image of the core.
