Spirits, Sparks and Proverbs. Witness the weekly ritual proceedings of a hundred-year-old vodu tradtion in which the participants become thier gods. An immersive, intimate encounter with the intensity, grace and artistry of spirtual music making in the house of Sofo Zigah. Post-production work is currently underway and another trip to Ghana planned to translate the lyrical content of the songs to uncover another layer of meaning for viewers. This observational documentary presents a journey into the heart of Gorovodu. Filmed in southeastern Ghana and in the Ghanaian capital city of Accra in 2002, this is a rare glimpse into the ritual celebration of the Anlo Ewe people and the Gorovodu order of Kunde. In search of the rhythms of the Brekete drum, the filmmakers were granted unprecedented access to the Fetatotro. Annual turning of the year festival, of vodu priest Sofo.
