Brett Jordan's two penn'orth: DDT - busting some myths
http://brett-jordan.blogspot.com/2007/11/ddt-busting-some-myths.html
Brett Jordan's two penn'orth. My half-baked, biased and flawed opinions on a range of life issues. Thursday, November 22, 2007. DDT - busting some myths. Surprisingly, DDT recovered its reputation, and in 2006 the World Health Organization (WHO) championed it again. But celebrations have been short-lived. The momentum to increase DDT use has stalled for lack of increased political and financial support. DDT was first used by the Allies during World War II to control lice-borne typhus. In October 1943...

Brett Jordan's two penn'orth. My half-baked, biased and flawed opinions on a range of life issues. Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Hate me all you like. But Christmas is just 5 weekends away. If you celebrate Christmas (or are forced to celebrate Christmas), then now is the time to start making lists (and checking them twice) of people to send cards to, buy presents for, etc. Hate me all you like. Brett Jordan's two penn'orth: Keeping up with the news

Brett Jordan's two penn'orth. My half-baked, biased and flawed opinions on a range of life issues. Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Keeping up with the news. Few of us have time to read one newspaper from cover to cover, let alone the hundreds of newspapers and magazines published in the UK and overseas every week. Britain's daily and Sunday newspapers amounts to around 5,800 pages. Almost ten million words. Every week. The Week distils the best of the British and foreign press into 35 pages.".

brett jordan: LG 1mm OLED Display
http://x1brettstuff.blogspot.com/2015/05/lgs-1mm-oled-display.html
Wednesday, May 20, 2015. LG 1mm OLED Display. The OLED TV was shown as a proof of concept at a press event in Korea. The 55-inch TV was a meagre 0.97mm thick and weighed just 1.9kg. By mounting a thin magnet to the wall the TV can be attached like a fridge magnet. To remove it you simply peel it off the wall. It also appears to be flexible making damaging it difficult and curving it easy. LG Display plans to keep pushing OLED and will introduce a 99-inch OLED screen this summer. Posted by Brett Jordan.

Thursday, June 18, 2015. If there's any subject movement, the algorithm takes the sharpest representation of that subject. Furthermore, the quartet of shots are carefully analysed for motion blur to attempt some de-blurring of the image, which simulates image stabilisation. Posted by Brett Jordan. brett jordan: Danish Wind Farms becoming increasingly viable
http://x1brettstuff.blogspot.com/2015/07/danish-wind-farms-becoming-increasingly.html
Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Danish Wind Farms becoming increasingly viable. On an unusually windy day this July, Denmark found itself producing 116% of its national electricity needs from wind turbines yesterday evening. By 3am on Friday, when electricity demand dropped, that figure had risen to 140%. Interconnectors allowed 80% of the power surplus to be shared equally between Germany and Norway, which can store it in hydropower systems for use later. Sweden took the remaining fifth of excess power.

brett jordan: Batteriser
http://x1brettstuff.blogspot.com/2015/06/batteriser.html
Thursday, June 04, 2015. Batteriser is a simple metal sleeve that promises to give consumers up to eight times more life from their disposable batteries, AAA through D. This is where Batteriser comes in. It’s essentially a voltage booster that sucks every last drop of useable energy from ostensibly spent batteries. So, instead of using just 20 percent of all the power hidden inside of your Duracells and Energizers, Batteriser makes effective use of the remaining 80 percent. Posted by Brett Jordan.

http://x1brettstuff.blogspot.com/2015/05/iron-fish-helps-relieve-anaemia.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. Iron fish helps relieve anaemia. When Canadian science graduate Christopher Charles visited Cambodia six years ago he discovered that anaemia was a huge public health problem. In the villages of Kandal province, instead of bright, bouncing children, Dr Charles found many were small and weak with slow mental development. Anaemia is the most common nutritional problem in the world, mainly affecting women of child-bearing age, teenagers and young children. The recipe is simple, Dr Char...

Thursday, May 28, 2015. New biosensor allows real-time medical monitoring. A one-centimeter-square) biosensor chip developed at EPFL is implanted under your skin to continuously monitor concentrations of pH, temperature, and metabolism-related molecules like glucose, lactate and cholesterol, as well as some drugs. The chip would replace blood work, which may take hours — or even days — for analysis and is a limited snapshot of conditions at the moment the blood is drawn. Posted by Brett Jordan. By mounti...

The little things...
Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things. Saturday, May 8, 2010. We headed up north to Cayucos for the weekend to hang out with Ryan/Anne/Sullivan and Eric/Colleen/Iris/Oliver. The Jenssesn's and the Camarillo Woodward's rented a beach house for a month and this weekend it was empty - so we headed up and took over. We had fun playing on the beach, going to the aquarium and seeing the sea-otters. Wednesday, May 5, 2010. A little macro fun. Today w...

Tumbling After
Saturday, January 1, 2011. One last milestone for 2010. While the rest of the world celebrated the new year, here at our house we were celebrating a birthday. A 9 month birthday to be exact. It always amazes me how much faster these 9 months go compared to the previous nine. ;). Diego celebrated his birthday by figuring out how to go up stairs; one last milestone for the year twenty ten. A year full of milestones like first smile, first teeth, first poop out, standing up to things and crawling. The first...

Monday, December 1, 2014. Peanut Allergy Treatment - Day Zero. I say day zero, because while we went to the clinic today, we didn't actually start the treatment. Today was an education day to prepare for the rare opportunity we are about to experience in treating our daughter for her allergy. I guess I should say here that my daughter is severely allergic to peanuts. Each one of those is a game of Russian roulette. Eventually, luck will run out. The actual treatment will start on Thursday. 5:00pm Water b...

Thoughts From My Brain. Thursday, February 14, 2013. 7in7 Spring 2013 - Day 2 - Darkness I Crave. Decided to experiment with only using an app on my phone as my instrument. It will never happen again.ever. Time and time again I try. To be swept up within the tide. Of all the lies I've floated on before. Suddenly the thought of me. Surviving such a violent sea. Is certainly enticing me to shore. Your unfailing love is all that keeps me from. The darkness that I crave. Me from my deadly fate. Or the heat o...
