Brewery Shades, Crawley. 85 High Street, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 1BA. Friday, 30 March 2012. Tasting Notes: Windsor and Eton Windsor Knot (4% abv). For a brewery that has only been in existence for a little over 2 years, Windsor and Eton are certainly moving in the right direction and are an example to follow for anyone hoping to run a successful brewery. Watneys and Co., Stag Brewery, Pimlico, London were the first known British brewery to produce a beer mat. The 2 mats to the left were issued in 1922 by the brewery. There were many earlier mats produced by British based breweries, however these were mainly produced for their export markets such as the McEwans to the left which were issued in 1929. A SWIFT ONE: The Red Rooster, Brighouse

Monday, October 19, 2009. The Red Rooster, Brighouse. It's a crying shame. That these days I only get to sample this dream of a pub during it's festival. There was a time when I'd make regular mid-week sorties to enjoy the well-kept beer, exceptional service and relaxed atmosphere but now I'm based just a little too far away. Two visits to last weekend's. Were very enjoyable though and whilst my esteemed colleagues may have turned their noses up at the beer list, I was delighted with the selection. Mostl...

Beer Justice: April 2011

Wednesday, 27 April 2011. Ale at the Foundling Hospital. A month or two ago, I visited the Threads of Feeling Exhibition at London's Foundling Museum. The Foundling Museum tells the story of the Foundling Hospital, London's first home for abandoned children. Among the scraps of material were other similar tokens left as identification. The one above was among them. It leaves an unknown story. Who was the mother? How did she come by this token? What became of the child? Tuesday, 26 April 2011. Took pity o...

Friday, May 29, 2015. Navigation Festival, Mirfield. This weekend sees a plethora of beer festivals in Yorkshire, so many that it is case of what to leave out, rather than which to attend. However, it was no contest when it came to the Navigation. Festival at Mirfield. It is a must attend in my calendar, and fortunately for me, it starts on a Thursday. 5C' - another golden beer, with a subtle hop background and one I would have happily stayed on all day .but other beers beckoned me. I thought I would cha...

Sunday, October 21, 2007. Busy Weekend Part 2 - The Cellar Bar, Batley. A three week refit has seen a welcome transformation of this basement bar opposite Batley railway station. And at long last it's possible to again enjoy a beer at one of my favourite former haunts. After an all too brief spell indirectly tied to the Hambleton brewery near Thirsk, The Cellar Bar is now the latest venture of Dewsbury's West Riding Refreshment Rooms boss and Anglo-Dutch brewery supremo Mike Field. The pub has alread...

Wednesday, February 10, 2010. The Commercial, Slaithwaite. An introduction to this award-winning Colne Valley pub featured here. Last year but I never found time to get any pictures done back then. If anything the place has improved even further since those very early days - as has my ability to get out of bed on a Sunday! A good range of beer at unbeatable value in a comfy, stylish environment - and just one stop down the track. Higher praise I cannot heap! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Coronado B...
