Brewfus Alewise: August 2009
http://brewfus.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 31, 2009. Let them eat beer! Those of you who also subscribe to my wife's blog, Danger Kitten Bakes, know that I recently made her a chocolate stout cake for her birthday. My mom gets credit for the idea (thanks mom! Because she knew I was planning to make a cake for Elena, and she came up with the idea of mixing our respective blog topics - beer and baking - into a dessert we could eat and then write about. I won't recount the cake making process, which you can read about here. Young's Do...

http://brewfus.blogspot.com/2009/07/hot-off-wire-baltimore-beer-from-old.html
Wednesday, August 5, 2009. Hot off the Wire - Baltimore beer from an old friend. Those who know us well know that we don’t watch much television. Danger Kitten occasionally channel surfs for movies. The only reason we have cable is for the bundle discount on our Internet service. Yet, l. Ast year, friends turned us on to HBO’s series The Wire. A five-season drama that ended in 2005, which we watched religiously this spring thanks to Netflix. Better late than never? Turns out people do. AJ brought me this...
Brewfus Alewise: September 2009
http://brewfus.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 5, 2009. A wise old soul once told me (or did I read it somewhere? Practice moderation in everything." And, for the most part, this rule describes my life fairly well. I'm pretty balanced in my approach to work and leisure (excepting fantasy baseball, on which I spend entirely too much time.), and I try not to overdo it. That said, sometimes it's just more fun to cut loose. From left: my father-in-law, Carlo; his girlfriend, Reka; my pal, Eric;. And yes, we coordinated. An open fermen...
Brewfus Alewise: Driving Ms. Danger Kitten
http://brewfus.blogspot.com/2009/08/driving-ms-danger-kitten.html
Saturday, August 29, 2009. Driving Ms. Danger Kitten. A month and a half ago (yes, I've been negligent in my blogging duties), my wife, a.k.a. Scheduled a classroom observation in Harlem, and asked if I was interested in joining her for an afternoon in NYC, i.e. drive. Being a devoted husband, I agreed to chauffer, and immediately set to finding a suitable watering hole to hunker down in while she watched reading teachers do their thing. My first thought was to sign up for a tour of the. Intrigued, notin...
Brewfus Alewise: The Dogfish Days of Winter
http://brewfus.blogspot.com/2010/02/dogfish-days-of-winter.html
Tuesday, February 23, 2010. The Dogfish Days of Winter. Forty-five inches of snow couldn’t keep us from traveling to Baltimore over President’s Day weekend - not when the objectives were to visit our dear (and soon to be married) friends AJ and Amber, and to journey to the Mecca of American Craft Brewing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Most home brewers and beer geeks already know about. Once we finished off our samples and settled our debts in the gift shop, it was off to Rehoboth Beach for dinner at Dogfi...

Danger Kitten Bakes: April 2011
http://dangerkittenbakes.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Baking.and a few of my other favorite things. Sunday, April 17, 2011. Mint Chocolate Devil's Food Cake for My Sweetheart's Birthday, and a Host of Variations. Chocolate lovers will delight in this layer cake made of three different chocolate components, and all will love how easy the cake is to make. This cake is delicious, of course, but it has so many other phenomenal things going for it that I felt I had to tell you about them. Make it ahead of time so the icing has time to set? The whipped ganache ca...

Danger Kitten Bakes: November 2010
http://dangerkittenbakes.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Baking.and a few of my other favorite things. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Vanilla Sour Cream Butter Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting from Rose Levy Beranbaum. This is my favorite vanilla cupcake recipe, and I especially love the addition of sour cream. The frosting is light and fluffy- if you are looking for a deeply chocolatey icing, look elsewhere- made of butter, egg whites, and sugar. The white nonpareils add a bit of whimsy to this cupcake made for Reka's birthday. 2/3 cup sour cream.

Generically titled baseball stuff with dionysum. Hopefully, this will hold my interest long enough for someone to read it. Monday, April 12, 2010. Week 1 results (Brew Plop). The red highlights show the two outliers of the sample (which is only a sample of 10, so none of this is particularly significant). The Dunbars were unable to score runs and about the only thing the Bulls did well was not give up runs. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Name for other blogs, some baseball related. Nothing to see here.

Generically titled baseball stuff with dionysum. Hopefully, this will hold my interest long enough for someone to read it. Monday, June 21, 2010. Week 10 recap brew plop. It's a good thing it's World Cup time, cause I feel like baseball is quitting on me. I fully plan on ranting out and out and calling it a "video update" later. For now, here's some stuff (earlier than usual, because I'm awake). First up, regular year-to-date Roto rankings (10 points for the best, 1 for worst, 120 possible). 4) Bobby's p...

Generically titled baseball stuff with dionysum. Hopefully, this will hold my interest long enough for someone to read it. Monday, May 17, 2010. Rotating league name week 5 recap. Far too involved league analysis:. Couldn't decide what I wanted to do for this week's update, so I just did way too much for way too little. The table below shows expected win values next to actual win totals and the difference between the two. Anyway, here's the result:. Brew Plop Week 5. The above table shows the number of w...

Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Hop Farming in SW Ohio? Cool Kickstarter for the SW Ohio brewing community. Is a homebrew supply store in Monroe. Brent Osborn is teaming up with a local farmer to produce locally grown hops. They are hoping to have funding in place now and have hops available as soon as 2014. Lots of great folks involved in this project. Really cool options at the upper end of the donation scale, such as working with Jeff Fortney (who brewed for local breweries Rivertown. Generically titled baseball stuff with dionysum. Hopefully, this will hold my interest long enough for someone to read it. Monday, June 07, 2010. Brew Plop week 9 recap. I'll walk you through The Journey of Week 9: The Analysis. Worst movie title ever). I started off looking at expected wins again, mostly because Jon likes them and he kind of killed the league this week. To test my theory, I looked at hitting and pitching separately. So overall, this week was slightly better than an average week, but tha...
Cup O'Cake Designs: March 2010
http://rissykay99.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Y'all know I love my Kitchenaid mixer with a love that knows no bounds. But we have a conundrum in our house. Recently we've been doing a lot of our cooking from scratch- fresh homemade breads, pastas, and sauces. We've been using our Kitchenaid daily and our little food processor has come in very handy. (I think this. Is the food processor we have currently.). Do you have any Kitchenaid attachments? A big food processor? Do you prefer one over the other? Lay it on me. Last month...

Congrats to Streeter on managing the last team to tie. Let's see how long he can put up wins and losses without being just mediocre! I might do more later, but here's the updated weekly best. The Leftover Kitchen
You can always find enough ingredients around to make tasty food. Sunday, November 14, 2010. I met my first wife in Louisana. I spent a lot of time in her mother Elsie's kitchen. Elsie grew up in a family with many children in a small town in bayou country called Raceland. Her family spoke french in their home. Their life was not easy, but they knew how to use the land and water to provide a significant portion of their sustenance. I started my gumbo by smoking 4 chicken thighs on my charcoal grill with ...
Brewfus Alewise
Sunday, March 7, 2010. No contest when it comes to. Beer wins by a country mile. But, I must say that I enjoy. Bread every bit as much as I enjoy. Beer Guess that makes me bit of a yeast monger. The parallels between beer and bread are obvious: yeast acting on grains through fermentation and the application of heat; heady aromas and delicious end-products; origins rooted in the deepest of human history. Today's post meets at the literal intersection of bread and beer: beer bread! We shopped a little long...

Brew Gamer | Homebrew, video games, and geekdom.
Homebrew, video games, and geekdom. A kegging and a brewing. Apparently, I’m really lazy when it comes to blogging. I’m comfortable with that. A couple weeks ago, [UGUF] took its next big step in the homebrew world: kegging! Purging the keg with CO2. The Nut Busta makes its way into the keg. Homebrew: temperature controlled and on tap. Jawesome. The kegerator plus a non-homebrew keg. What? Theres two taps. Cant leave one open. An engineer at work. Let the second tapping commence! I don’t know jack ...
