Sunday, October 9, 2011. Death Fugue" translation analysis. Death Fugue," by Paul Celan, gives insight into the choice of words made by the translator. In the comparison of the translations by John Felstiner, and Christopher Middleton, the differences are even found in the titles. The lines that stuck with me from both translations has some striking differences, but through the inconsistencies I was able to get a feel for what Celan was likely trying to communicate in the original German. The translation...

Perceptions of Poetry: December 2011
http://prettypoets.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Poetry. What is it really? Poetry is words; no it is so much more than that. Poetry is self-expression through depictions of situations and emotions by a writer. Yes, but what about the reader; what is poetry to the reader? Poetry is given value and meaning by the reader and the personal experiences and point of view brought to the poem by the reader. All of these things are true and fine but really what is poetry? According to Webster poetry is “. As she creates two smaller ...

Intro to lit: thoughts of semester life. Sunday, October 30, 2011. The Man, The Myth, The Bird. Downhill I came, hungry, and yet not starved;. Cold, yet had heat within me that was proof. Against the North wind; tired, yet so that rest. Had seemed the sweetest thing under a roof. Then at the inn I had food, fire, and rest,. Knowing how hungry, cold, and tired was I. All of the night was quite barred out except. An owl's cry, a most melancholy cry. Shaken out long and clear upon the hill,. Due in part to ...

Intro to lit: thoughts of semester life. Thursday, December 8, 2011. Poetry (n.): A Trick of Light. Why not write poetry that will aid in the spread of comfort, change or justice? Forche sums up why it is we need poetry: “If we have not, if we do not, what, in the end, have we become? And if we do not, what, in the end, shall we be? Who are we not to search them out in the late night in order to remind another soul at a kitchen table feeling hopelessly lost that he is not alone? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A Peace of Poetry. Thursday, December 8, 2011. Primo Levi's "Buna": A Reflection on Transformation. The American Poetry Review,. Levi lovestruck, and ambitious, but soon transformed by his exposure to Auschwitz(Balakian). The style that Primo Levi implemented to write ‘Buna’ was quite interesting.
