Hill English: March 2014
http://englishmru.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Well, there goes the week! One snow day today and another tomorrow. And Friday will be an in-service day for faculty at Mill River. Compared to the last two years this year has definitely brought much more winter weather. While I'd definitely rather be working with my students, this does give me a break to explore some classroom ideas that I've kept on the metaphorical back burner. (Not to mention some catching up on guitar and snowboarding too, of course! Tweets by @ MRHill.

Hill English: Writer's Workshop
http://englishmru.blogspot.com/2014/04/writers-workshop.html
Thursday, April 24, 2014. Writer friend caught in action". Is licensed under by CC BY 2.0. We started a Writer's Workshop this week, and after day two I'm just plain amazed! I was excited about the program, but I'm pleasantly surprised by my students enthusiasm. Some background: here at Mill River we loop 7th and 8th grade. So we've been working on reading, writing, grammar, usage, and mechanics for quite some time together. Now we're lucky to have the time to really run a workshop the right way!

Wednesday, February 5, 2014. I hope you're all enjoying the snow (or at least the day off). Just to give you a heads up, Thursday and Friday will be block days. Tomorrow we'll go A, C, E, G like a Wednesday, so we'll take our quiz on Monday. Anyone who didn't get to do their "job" at school got a free day off- just don't forget to do it next week. Friday, January 17, 2014. Great Education iPad Apps. While there are tons of lists out there of great iPad apps for education, this list is a little more specific to what we'll be doing in the 8th grade here at Mill River. We just rolled out our 1:1 program in December, and we're figuring out all sorts of great ways to use them. Students- email me all the great apps you've found too, so I can share those with everyone! Your list will probably be better than mine! Quizlet - Quizlet LLC. We've used paper p...

Friday, December 27, 2013. Developing my first app for iOS 7. Well, the last few days I've been busy learning some javascript in the context of the Sencha Touch and Phonegap frameworks. I've also had to juggle Apple iOS developer provisioning and testing via Xcode. The good news: I have an app about ready to deploy for everyone to use on their iPads! Monday, December 16, 2013. Hill English: Dynamic Equilibrium
http://englishmru.blogspot.com/2014/04/dynamic-equilibrium.html
Thursday, April 24, 2014. When I first entered the profession of education- fresh from graduate school with a little student teaching to my credit- I thought I had a solid base of theory from which to design my classroom practice. Quickly, however, I realized that the research-based best practices that I employed were not necessarily comprehensive enough to inform every classroom decision with which I was faced. Uh-oh. They didn't teach me that in Methods 101. How does an artist create a new masterpiece?
