Musings and Images from a Chicago Photographer. Sunday, August 20, 2006. Can I Brag a Little? I submitted a photo to the Penninsula Pulse newspaper photo contest, and received an Honorable Mention. The photo was printed in the main section of their paper, along with a Judge's Note and a blurb about myself. The Pulse. Is THE arts, entertainment, and culture newspaper of Door County, Wisconsin. Thanks for looking! A full size version of the photo can be seen here: Windy City Bends. PHOTOS by Brian Kravets.

Musings and Images from a Chicago Photographer. Sunday, August 13, 2006. It is critical when shooting fast moving subjects, to use the correct shutter speed. An example would be taking pictures at a sports event. If your shutter speed is fast, you will freeze the subject. This isn't necessarily wrong, but makes for a less exciting photo. The subject won't look like they are in the midst of dashing down the field, or catching a fly ball. Neither shot is "wrong", both just serve different purposes.

Musings and Images from a Chicago Photographer. Monday, August 28, 2006. I suppose the name of the building isn't THAT important, but it would be nice to know. I'd also like to remember what was going through my head that day. What was the weather like, what were the people like, did anything funny happen. I could have also written down notes to remind myself how I obtained a certain shot, such as exposure details. Live and learn. PHOTOS by Brian Kravets. Links to this post. View my complete profile.

Musings and Images from a Chicago Photographer. Saturday, July 15, 2006. Every time we take a photograph, we permanently freeze a moment in time. But what makes that moment worth returning to? Everyone has a stack of old photos in their closet, collecting dust. Or more likely, a hard drive filling up with digital snapshots. My aim with this blog is to help others create memorable moments, instead of dusty stacks (or gigs) of forgotten photos. PHOTOS by Brian Kravets. Links to this post. Like what you see?

Musings and Images from a Chicago Photographer. Friday, September 15, 2006. Something I don't work on enough is using reflections in unique ways. Particularly in water or puddles. I made it a point to shoot some reflections the other day after some rain. Luckily I was with a friend, because getting a human figure into this shot made a big difference. PHOTOS by Brian Kravets.
