brianonthefly: August 2013

http://brianonthefly.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 12, 2013. Jessie Hollenbeck ties a fly on by headlamp. When the time is right and the phone calls are made, we all make the drive to the pull-off and with nervous hands we try and tie on our first choice of flies as quickly as possible – flies we all hope will bring interest from the trout. Even the smaller fish can't layoff a big meal. Then the path finally spills out onto the bank, and the stream lies before us. Our sight now becomes a liability. Flies like these draw explosive strikes.

Thursday, December 11, 2014. Brithday Fly Fishing 2014. Jessie and I with one of a few doubles on the day. This past Friday – that would be December 5. To be exact – A few of us brave souls made an attempt at putting our angling mark on some WNY tributary trout. Jessie with one of many. My good friend and Wide Sky Fly Fishing. Guide Jessie Hollenbeck had been giving me updates from his recent outings with his clients, and boy did the fishing look amazing. I was just hoping for it to half as good. The fis...

Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Winter Fly FIshing - Inland trout 2015. Leif tying up a new offering while fly fishing the Oatka. Winter has certainly made a home here in WNY. With prolonged spells of arctic air that never seem to moderate, we are now beginning to suffer from the effects of cabin fever. An ailment that seems to run long and hard this time of year. Colored up Spring Creek brown. I was joined by a new friend – Leif Mermagen of StreamwalkerNets. Make sure to check out his work with the link above.

Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Fishing with the Boys. Jonathan works a long run with a big streamer. A little more than a week ago I had the perfect opportunity to take my two boys out to do a little fly fishing at a local WNY tributary. The afternoon temperature was in the low sixties and the water levels, although still high and stained (about a foot of visibility), were on the drop. The fishing looked promising. Ethan gets ready to release a nice drop back hen. Jonathan with yet another drop back hen. It's ...

http://brianonthefly.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 31, 2013. 50 BEST TAILWATERS TO FLY FISH". I have always loved fishing ever since I can remember. In fact I spent a good deal of each day as a kid dreaming of catching all kinds of different fish in all kinds of amazing places – a practice I still enjoy today. The only things that kept me from realizing those early dreams were a driver’s license and school. Okay…and maybe money too. I mean how far can you really get on your own when you’re just 10 years old! It is truly a great book to ...

About Us – Contributors. Fly Fisher’s Workshop 2016. Posted by Craig Dennison. On June 16, 2015, filed in: Delaware River. Early on, it took me until 3pm to hook and land my first nice fish. Even though I enjoyed a large stretch on a famous pool to myself, there weren’t bugs and therefore, a scarcity of risers. The clockwork sulphers and olives weren’t around. Ironically, it was overcast all day and it appeared to be one of those textbook bwo days! The following two tabs change content below. May 23, 2016.

I’d like to say that my lodging plans are as well coordinated as my fly box. They are not. Brian on the Road. September 14, 2006. Sorry for the delay on this one. I'm sure I'll forget about 1/2 the stuff we did in Greece. Sorry. We arrived in Athens early in the day and made our way to our hotel, which was fairly standard except that the front desk controlled the A/C in our room, which was odd. We got some 'authentic' Greek food - read: Gyros and started for the Acropolis. We were actually on the wrong side to get to the entrance, so once we figured it out, we made it to the entrance. That nig...
