The Art of Brian Recktenwald

Saturday, June 22, 2013. Photo Illustration: Idea farm. I've created a new photo illustration called "Idea Farm" that's about cultivating that one idea that can turn into something. I used paper mache, light bulbs and a somewhat successful attempt using baby powder for atmosphere/dust with a long exposure. All together, the final image was a composite of 4 different shots. Here's some behind the scenes of how it was made:. Sunday, July 22, 2012. Saturday, July 21, 2012. Sunday, December 12, 2010. I final...

art by matt: two.

http://artburdette.blogspot.com/2009/03/two.html

Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Hey, also. While I'm setting things up, lemme bring this one to your attention. As well as sticking artwork up on this doohickey of sorts, I also intend to put up some of my side level design work as well. Every so often, when the moon is just right and the stars are aligned, I like to crack open Valve's Hammer Editor. Or maybe Sandbox for CryEngine 2. I think we have a lot to gain, both you and I, from this arrangement. By testing the level far early on in the process, I c...

In Progress: September 2009

Thursday, September 17, 2009. Watercolor and Gouache Workshop. What a fantastic weekend Thomas and I had up the coast in Mendocino. We got a chance to get away from our daily lives of photoshop painting and use real paint for a change. I worked with gouache a bit, and struggled with watercolor. It was really enlightening learning From Erik Tiemens to take advantage and really explore the combinations of both mediums. I won't ramble on about how amazing the in-class demos. Were or the exercises.

In Progress: Drawing from FIlm

http://mollydenmark.blogspot.com/2013/04/drawing-from-film.html

Wednesday, April 17, 2013. I am posting again! We'll see how long I can keep this up. I was going through an old sketchbook from years back when I took a film appreciation workshop. The great part of having an instructor control the screenshot, is you don't know how long you have to quickly jot something down. These two pages from the sketchbook were from The Shining. And City of God. I'm starting to do this more again. There is so much to learn from studying great film stills. Posted by M Denmark.

Thursday, February 7, 2008. The record amounts of rain we've been getting in Northern California, and staying indoors all winter long, has made me really anxious for spring to arrive already!
