Heather Woods: To Make Up or Not to Make Up
http://mrsheatherwoods.blogspot.com/2009/07/to-make-up-or-not-to-make-up.html
Monday, July 13, 2009. To Make Up or Not to Make Up. Is there anything I can do to get a passing grade? 8221; . How many times have each of us heard that questions two days before the end of a semester? 8220;What the heck have you been doing since the semester started? 8221; . I want to ask. Is it fair to other students to allow someone to pass who has not been showing effort throughout the semester? Are we doing justice to the child who really hasn’t learned what he needs to in order to pass? It is a ...

Teaching2Learn: July 2009

Monday, July 13, 2009. Burned by Your Firewall! How many times have educators been burned by their school’s firewall or web site filter? The number is probably too staggering to figure. But, it is a lot! Web site filters are put in place in schools that receive federal funds to buy computers. According to the Children’s Internet Protection Act of 2000. I believe that we are better off teaching students about online safety than relying on a filter to do the job for us. Many courses, such as I-Safe. Superv...

Teaching2Learn: A Test Is a Test Is a Test – Not!
http://lmsgreff.blogspot.com/2009/07/test-is-test-is-test-not.html
Thursday, July 2, 2009. A Test Is a Test Is a Test – Not! This title is borrowed from an article about achievement testing from Educational Leadership. The author states that all achievement tests are not the same. Many times when achievement tests are used as the basis for research studies the name of the test is not even mentioned. Given that achievement tests differ from each other, it is like basing research results on the comparison between apples and oranges. In conclusion, I hate to see what stand...

My Secret: Passion: Censorship
http://passion4teaching-melinda.blogspot.com/2009/07/censorship.html
Thursday, July 9, 2009. The dirty word in library circles echoes in the school classrooms. Censorship is not only not allowing books. But also censoring what students can write. About . Both of these are happening daily in American schools. When reading about acts of censorship in the public schools it is fascinating. When Carrie Courogen. When we think about student’s rights, we need to focus on this poignant statement about censorship by Courogen. July 9, 2009 at 10:38 PM. July 12, 2009 at 5:25 PM.

Heather Woods: May 2009
http://mrsheatherwoods.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Schools have forever been trying to increase student learning. High schools want their students to make it to college, colleges want students to stick it out for the full four years. Let's face it. In order for this to happen, we've got to start taking a deeper look at the students who don't make it and figure out why. . An article in USA Today. 160;This college is trying something new called "learning communities". My first year at Valley City State University. 160;I think t...

Heather Woods: It's just a grill people!!
http://mrsheatherwoods.blogspot.com/2009/07/its-just-grill-people.html
Tuesday, July 7, 2009. It's just a grill people! I’ve always been against censorship. I think libraries should be able to have whatever books they want on the shelf. I think school textbooks should represent history appropriately regardless of material that could be critical or damaging. I think that a teacher should be able to teach a book that has important lessons and themes. Having said that, as responsible adults, we need to have some sort of idea about what’s appropriate in what forum. About an Ell...
