Thoughts & reflections from southern New Zealand
Bricky's World: Between two trees, there lies a story true....
http://brickysworld.blogspot.com/2013/10/between-two-trees-there-lies-story-true.html
Thoughts and reflections from southern New Zealand. Sunday, 13 October 2013. Between two trees, there lies a story true. Is a song that was popular more years ago than I really want to remember, but I was reminded of it today when I visited the very small town which was the home of my childhood. Two trees, still reaching skyward after all these years. The first is an English Oak (. Soon after I started school as a 5 year old, my teacher took our class for a natur. A sensible one, probably! Between two tr...
Bricky's World: March 2012

Thoughts and reflections from southern New Zealand. Thursday, 29 March 2012. In Te Anau. Wednesday, 28 March 2012. People and their Gardens. My work often involves visiting people at their homes. Mostly, when I walk through the front gate and up the path, I have very little factual information about the person or people behind the door. But I can usually make a pretty intelligent guess about their personalities. How? Unkempt, overgrown gardens can sometimes indicate unfortunate occupants who are not wel...
Bricky's World: Heartland New Zealand by any other name....
http://brickysworld.blogspot.com/2013/10/heartland-new-zealand-by-any-other-name.html
Thoughts and reflections from southern New Zealand. Saturday, 5 October 2013. Heartland New Zealand by any other name. That's where my memory wandered to recently when I came upon the scene in the photo. The local rugby field being "mowed" by the ubiquitous ovine species, confined by a movable electric fence which would, I suppose, be moved across periodically by a dedicated community volunteer. Call it Heartland if you must, but the spirit of small town New Zealand lives on. Labels: Heartland New Zealand.
Bricky's World: September 2013

Thoughts and reflections from southern New Zealand. Saturday, 28 September 2013. A Thorn Amongst the Roses. The purpose of this column is to entertain. If it informs, that will be a bonus. If it does neither, the writer will be unemployed and hungry. It is assumed that while readers are rose enthusiasts, they have an interest in gardening generally. Let’s get started then. Bricky's World: June 2012
http://brickysworld.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts and reflections from southern New Zealand. Tuesday, 19 June 2012. Signs in the Timaru Botanic Gardens, South Canterbury, New Zealand. OK, the signwriter stuffed up - twice - but wouldn't someone on the gardens staff have noticed and sent them back for correction? Apparently not, as I first spotted these errant signs three years ago and they're still in place. Links to this post. Saturday, 16 June 2012. Where does respect begin? Links to this post. sixtyfivewhatnow: I'm glad it worked out!
http://sixtyfivewhatnow.blogspot.com/2012/04/im-glad-it-worked-out.html
Step into a new stage of life. Sunday, April 15, 2012. I'm glad it worked out! I'm sure you all recognize this scene. The view is from my family room, over the garden powdered with a rare dusting of snow on this day, over Garrison Lake, over the dunes and the Pacific roiling in the background. My daughter notices when I use the phrase, "I'm glad it worked out! I remember the horns of this dilemma from what my mother used to say:. So much that is us, is not of our doing. Yes so much is not our doing, and ...

A WEED IN THE WASTELAND ~ Taieri Gorge, April 26, 2013. – Waltzing in the Wilderness
https://waltzinginthewilderness.wordpress.com/2013/05/10/a-weed-in-the-wasteland-taieri-gorge-april-26-2013
Waltzing in the Wilderness. The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Isaiah 35:1 – 2 …a time to mourn, and a time to dance… Ecclesiastes 3:4b. May 10, 2013. A WEED IN THE WASTELAND Taieri Gorge, April 26, 2013. But, now that I’ve done it I would have gladly paid $100! On the way to Middlemarch I had relocated myself to be nearer civilization in the center of the carriage and also to have a table...

Thoughts and reflections from southern New Zealand. Sunday, 3 May 2015. Change the flag or flag the change? The process nominated by Key's National Party government is to hold two binding public referenda. The first, to be held in November or December this year, will ask "If the New Zealand flag changes, which flag would you prefer? And the state of California sees fit to continue honouring the historical fact that is was a republic for a few months in the year of our lord 1846AD. Whatever the outcome of...
